My approach, depending on the individual client's needs, may include: psychodynamic psychotherapy, interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, supportive or solution-focused techniques.
I serve as a companion to my clients while they sort out issues in their lives. I view my clients from an empathetic nonjudgmental perspective and focus on helping them recognize their strengths while reducing their negative distortions about themselves. I treat clients who have low self-esteem, past trauma and losses, a history of anxiety, and long-term depression. I also specialize in working with couples needing to address marital issues. My clients experience being deeply respected and being able to talk comfortably and with trust. As a team, my clients and I create transformative change in their lives.

My approach is typically psychodynamic in which I aim to help you uncover the roots of your emotional suffering.
I am a masters-level clinician at Sanative Counseling and Wellness Center. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I am a depth-oriented psychotherapist—I believe that the mind, body, and spirit are seeking wholeness rather than perfection. I work from a place of understanding that trauma is what happens inside of us in response to an external event and that healing from this pain—whether it manifests as anxiety, depression, grief, low self-esteem, or relational issues—is a enriching process that you do not need to face alone. I am here to help you identify clues in your life that are guiding you toward wholeness.

I utilize a psychodynamic lens which focuses on the unconscious forces that often drive our emotions and actions; including underlying desires and anxieties that are present deep within the mind yet influence personality and behavior.
As human beings, we are wired to deal with our pain in ways that leave us feeling lost, exhausted, and hopeless. We may lose sight of our purpose, our values, our loved ones, and many other aspects of life that make us whole and content. With humility and compassion, I aim to support you in dropping the struggle and finding new ways to achieve the well-being you deserve. You don’t have to figure it out alone and I am here to help you regain control over your life. I hold space for many including first responders, veterans, at-risk teens, and men who have been hesitant to pursue therapy in the past.

In a time where many people are more socially integrated than ever, they have ironically been left feeling more disconnected and dissatisfied. There are those who are in relationships, but still feel alone. Whether social isolation, crippling anxiety, or a constant chase for satisfaction, I find clients are looking for a deeper understanding of themselves that can provide insight into a healthier and happier way to live.

Waitlist for new clients
I work with many types of clients, addressing various life issues, but my specialization is working with people who have been targets of physical or emotional harm due to who they are or who they are perceived to be. This includes people targeted on the basis of race, ethnicity, or heritage; gender, sexuality, or gender expression; religious or faith beliefs/practices; or other aspects of identity. Most clients I work with have post-trauma, anxiety, and/or depression symptoms. I believe in the importance of helping clients explore the root causes of their symptoms, while also finding interventions to address those symptoms.

We all experience stress, loss, and other challenges at some point in our lives. When we recognize that we are unhappy with how things are going, we can chose to ignore the problem or do something about it. If we are ready to take action to improve our situation, then seeking psychotherapy can be empowering. It can help us feel validated and regain a sense of control over our lives. As a psychologist for over 30 years, I provide a safe, non-judgmental, supportive environment in which to identify and explore these concerns, develop coping skills, and establish goals to bring about positive change.

I deeply appreciate how difficult it can be for many to start the process of therapy. I value bringing my authentic self to sessions in order to build a trusting, therapeutic connection and create a sense of safety. I believe that is the foundation of this work and necessary for healing and change to occur. Sometimes we need a nonjudgmental space to be heard. Sometimes we want to learn new strategies to manage the challenges of everyday life, and sometimes we just want to get to know ourselves better and improve confidence. I consider it a privilege to be let in to anyone’s path toward self-discovery and life improvement.

May is more than just the gateway to summer; it's a month dedicated to shining a spotlight on one of the most critical yet often overlooked aspects of our well-being: mental health. Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a reminder that mental health is a fundamental part of overall health and well-being. Just as we prioritize physical health through exercise, nutrition, and regular check-ups, we must also prioritize mental health through self-care, stress management, and seeking professional help when needed.

While we cannot change the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary approaches and techniques, we will discover long standing behavior patterns or negative self perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
