There is a misconception that therapy is a place to seek advice, or vent to a therapist who sits passively, nodding with tacit understanding. Instead, imagine a therapy that makes no attempt to reduce symptoms, but achieves symptom reduction as a by-product. The more time and energy we spend trying to control, avoid, or get rid of unwanted private experiences the more we are likely to suffer psychologically in the long term. Therapy can support mindful action and direction which can then create a more meaningful life, even in the presence of pain.

Our broad goal––of course––is “the end of unnecessary suffering.” Sound about right? While we all strive for this, I specialize in helping folks with a very-unique kind of suffering: OCD. I can tell you that few people understand the pain and complexity of OCD—(even most therapists). I will listen intently to your unique story. Just know that I can introduce you to an arsenal of tools that can help: mindfulness, ERP (exposure and response prevention) and on and on. Yes, thoughts can be “sticky.” But––with hard work––if (or when) those thoughts come back around…they can be as quiet & as harmless as a yellow post-it.

Let’s be honest, life can be overwhelming and exhausting. Living with anxiety, depression, guilt, anger, or shame can be draining and leave us feeling hollow. We’re all facing our own challenges and these become harder when we feel stuck, don’t see our worth, or find ourselves constantly in our heads. We’re naturally inclined to focus on our mistakes, limitations, doubts, and insecurities. The odd thing is, most of us experience the same things, but we don’t really talk about it. These feelings can be debilitating, but there are research-based methods that help people find more peace of mind, security, and joy.

Even in the darkest of moments, it’s important that you know that you are deserving of feeling good and being well. Yet, experiences can challenge just how much you believe that is possible. You may begin to doubt, doubt turns into inaction, and inaction turns into many dark days and nights. You may feel lost, but hope is not gone. Within our work together we clarify your vision of wellness, examine roadblocks, and identify smart strategies to make life begin to work for you.
