Because you are a unique individual, and it is important that the process resonates with you, we will work collaboratively to choose which path to take and which therapy techniques we use. We can discover how to draw on your strengths so you can live life to the fullest. Some of the techniques I offer are ACT, CBT, and Narrative Exposure Therapy. And while I take your mental health very seriously, experience has taught me that bringing a sense of humor to the sessions can give a lift and add perspective. I'd be happy to speak with you so we can get a better sense of whether we might be a good match.

It takes a lot of courage to enter into therapy as it means acknowledging that something isn't working in your life. Everyone who comes into therapy is a unique individual whose problems are different eventhough they may fall under the same category,e.g."depressed." Sometimes people enter into therapy with specific problems while for others there is a need to understand old, negative patterns of behaviors.

Have you lost someone close to you, whether through divorce, a breakup, or death, and find your grief taking over your life? Are you questioning your sexual orientation or gender? Are you experiencing post-traumatic stress symptoms? You don't have to do it alone. I work collaboratively and compassionately with my clients to help them come to some kind of peace with whatever they're struggling with. My ideal client would be someone who is ready and willing to participate in treatment. I am comfortable with an array of different diagnoses and struggles. Their needs would include working towards tangible goals that we are able to breakdown in the treatment setting. They may want to work on self-esteem, depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms etc. They would want to minimize their symptoms and improve everyday functioning. The goal would ultimately be to no longer need treatment as they have reached their goals.

Why are you looking for a therapist? People usually seek therapy because they feel hurt, dissatisfied or unhappy in their lives. And they generally feel most comfortable with a therapist who is relaxed, accepting, non-judgmental on one hand and experienced, knowledgeable and confident on the other. During my twenty seven years of private practice, I have sought to embody these principles.

In my practice I utilize a collaborative, strengths-based model to help clients increase awareness and develop strategies to feel more successful in their lives. My therapeutic approach is overall eclectic, drawing on my training in the evidence-based modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). As an LMHC with a Master's Degree in Art Therapy, I also incorporate expressive therapy when beneficial. In all of my work, I aim to focus my approach depending on the needs of the client I am working with.

It is often difficult to be one's unique human self. How wonderful you have the courage to propel hope for deep and lasting change for your emotional struggles. Adults in individual and couples therapy deserve to experience loving relationships, and freedom from anxiety, depression, trauma, ADD, and one's idiomatic patterns of difficulty. When your strengths come to the fore, problems loosen their hold, creating the possibilities of you consistently being lovingly in charge of your own life. When your inner life is enriched, you increase possibilities for more abundance. Your private education becomes a great overall investment.

Something that sets me apart from other therapists is my fresh perspective and enthusiasm to help others. I am qualified to work with a wide range of people, but I specialize in working with people who wish to connect with themselves and explore how past experiences in relationship dynamics, sexuality and culture, to name a few, form their identity. My passion for understanding how people think, feel and interact with others led me to the field of psychotherapy.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists

How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?

Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like Cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.

Are there specific medications for dissociation?

There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.

How often and how long are therapy sessions?

Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
