Anyone who has flown in an airplane knows the instruction to "put on your own oxygen mask before helping others", and that idea can be applied broadly to general life, but it's difficult to know what that looks like! If you want to learn more about how to balance your own needs/wants/self-care with the demands of fast paced daily life and/or family needs, we can figure out what "putting on your mask first" would be for your life. Whatever your issue might be...if you need more calm moments throughout your day, less conflict in your parenting, or ways to reduce stress for improved work-life balance, we can find solutions together.

I am a cognitive-behavioral therapist specializing in the treatment of anxiety, mood and substance use disorders in adults and young adults. I am also certified in EMDR. While a grounding in the science of treatment informs all of my work, compassion and empathy are at its foundation. I am a Clinical Instructor of Psychology at the Harvard Medical School and Clinical Associate of Psychology at McLean Hospital.

I am a therapist, faerie, and musician drawn to therapeutic work by a love of people and our collective journey through life. With a but of humor and a relaxed demeanor, therapy sessions with me often feel like getting together with a trusted friend. As a more feminine man, I use my lived experience to create a space where we can be queer as a $3 bill while being taken seriously and acknowledged for the full people we are. In particular, I intend for the space we create together to be a time without judgements and expectations of the “outside world”, regardless of where they come from.

I’m a proudly autistic, queer, polyamorous, kinky and non-binary therapist who believes in decolonizing therapy and building intersectional spaces for healing.
There's nothing wrong with you. No, really—I know you struggle, and life can feel so hard sometimes. Maybe it feels like you'll never fit in, or you can't meet the expectations placed on you. Maybe it feels impossible to live the kind of life you want as your authentic self. But this world was not designed for you. Whether you're a neurodivergent or disabled human trying to make do in a one-size-fits-all world or your identities do not fit neatly into societal norms, let's work together to figure out what it means to adapt to the world we have, and to create small spaces that are a perfect fit for you.

I also specialize in strategies for overcoming specific obstacles, such as Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, and conflict related to LGBTQIA+ identities.
Do you ever feel like there’s a version of yourself you really want to be, but something's holding you back? I get it, and you’re not alone. There are many reasons that make us want to “be better”, so that we can be more in harmony in our relationships, so that we can be as productive as we want to be in our careers, so that we can be kinder to ourselves and have more confidence. I'm all about helping people figure out who they are and becoming the best version of themselves. I'm here to help you overcome the things that are stopping you from being that "you" you want to be.

I am a neurodivergent, queer, liberation-oriented therapist, and as a licensed independent clinical social worker, I believe that the systems in society have created long-term harm to all of its members and that, through radical work, this harm can be undone.
I warmly welcome the opportunity to work with folks from all walks of life -whether through individual or through couples counseling- and invites anyone to reach out to to begin a conversation around accessing therapy. I have significant amount of experience working with folks who have been impacted by trauma; who experience anxiety or depression; who are seeking gender affirming care, and folks who are impacted by their identities (such as racial/ethnic, gender, sexuality, disability) and relationships (polyamory, enm, monogamous).

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
