I hold a space of safety, confidentiality & upmost respect for my clients, the stories they have lived & their hopes for personal transformation. With my youngest clients, counseling is a collaborative process of shifting challenging habits & behaviors, or removing roadblocks impacting school adjustment and family harmony. I work in partnership with caregivers to take actionable steps, teaching skills & strategies to help children and adolescents thrive. With adult clients, we uncover patterns & behaviors causing pain, address trauma, shame, identity, or relationship issues; anything impacting optimal wellbeing.

I also work with adults on the Autism Spectrum both newly diagnosed and those who were diagnosed at a young age.
Whether you need help with some problem solving or are just feeling down, I can help you to get back on track. Perhaps you just need some brief solution focused therapy or if you need help with more in-depth issues, a plan can be created to help you to feel like your best self. I have always been drawn to working with people and strive to improve their lives by teaching them the tools needed to overcome adversities that we all face at one time or another. I have always believed, that our struggles help define us and make us stronger for what lies ahead.

I focus primarily on evaluating children, adolescents and adults through Psychological or Psychoeducational Testing. Testing can I help people to discover their intellectual strengths and weaknesses, learning style, emotional triggers and better ways to deal with stress or confusion. In addition to diagnosing things like ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Asperger's, Autism, Mood Disorders and Learning Disabilities (something most school systems are unable to do when testing students who are struggling), I can help kids and adults access the services (e.g., therapeutic, educational, vocational and/or pharmacological) that are most likely to improve the quality of their lives.

I understand that many family members go through a period of grief around the initial diagnosis of a loved one with a developmental delay such as Autism or Intellectual Disability.
I have a personable style with clients and strive to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in session where clients feel comfortable bringing issues at stake to light. I carry a diverse caseload with an emphasis on working with clients who are parents of, caregivers of, siblings of, and persons with developmental disabilities. I see ages 18+. I believe in helping people to problem-solve and create opportunities for themselves. I use a common-sense approach to helping clients and work collaboratively with them to set goals. I enjoy helping people learn through adversity and find their own inner-strength.

NOTE: I am currently full but my coworkers in my office have some room and have similar areas of expertise! Clients who work with me will be getting an authentic, genuine and relational experience versus the feeling of talking with someone cold, overly clinical or robotic. My favorite clients to work with are those who are part of the queer community, neurodivergent or who have a trauma history. I aim to work from a client-centered perspective and understand the importance of cultural humility in this work, particularly when working across differences.

I have three offerings for summer 2024: 1) For parents of babies and toddlers who aren't meeting their milestones or who you just have a gut instinct that they could use some support, I will be offering in home sessions to develop language, connection, and play skills using connected play and verbal behavior approaches and also support for parents. 2) behavioral play sessions for elementary age to work on social skills, tolerance skill, communicating needs, and coping strategies; this can be a sibling group to facilitate shared play and cooperation and negotiation skills.

Hi and Welcome, I know life can be challenging, and taking the first steps to get support can be challenging. As a psychotherapist in the field for nearly a decade, I'm here to provide you with a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Are you feeling overwhelmed by the demands of parenting? Are you struggling with anxiety or depression that makes it difficult to enjoy life or function at your best? Or perhaps you're facing challenges in your relationships that seem impossible to solve. Whatever you're going through, know you don't have to face it alone.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
