I have also worked extensively in medical settings to support those fighting cancer and other chronic illnesses, including transplant and dialysis.
Welcome... I'm Julie, and I'm glad you're here. I provide talk therapy to adults who are facing stressful life transitions and want support around coping and adjustment. I work best with clients who are motivated to change and become "unstuck" in harmful thought and behavior patterns. Maybe you're navigating a fertility journey.... Maybe you or a loved one has a chronic health issue... Maybe you want to improve your negative self talk. I'm certain that I can help.

Judy Garland said it best: "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." I help clients with depression, anxiety, self esteem, "stuck-ness" and relationship issues; and specialized concerns with sexual and gender identity, illness & loss. I see every instance in our lives as an opportunity for evolution. I believe in the search for insight, but also developing practical tools for change. I believe in the value of a good laugh, but also keeping ourselves honest. I believe in the importance of hope and integrity, but also managing expectations & resentments so that we can flourish.

I provide a supportive therapeutic environment that is comfortable and non-judgmental. My clinical approach to therapy is a partnership that allows my clients to be interactive in their sessions. Together, we will discuss what your presenting concerns are and work on building skills that will help you cope with those issues. If you are unsure what your specific therapeutic goals are at this time and are looking for broader supports, we can also work together to gain a better understanding of yourself while building a toolbox of skills that will help you move forward on your journey.

Does it seem as if you are weathering the same emotional storm with your partner, no matter what the topic? Does it seem as if life has tossed you into a deep ocean of surging emotions and thoughts- and you're treading water in your moments of disconnection? Or do you feel alone in a dark pit, or frozen and cut off from the one who matters most? Are there nagging problems you just can't seem to find solutions for? Together, you and I can find the shore, the sunshine, the ladder up to the renewed connection to full connection in love.

Life happens and sometimes a lot of life is happening all at once. From relationship struggles, family planning/Parenthood, career changes, navigating life transitions, gender & sexuality, family stressors, trauma, living through a global pandemic and the aftermath. It makes sense if you are feeling anxious, sad, unsure, lost, and overwhelmed. If any of these resonates with you, it’s time to prioritize your mental and emotional health.

I have been a clinician and educator for over twenty-five years and blend these methods in my clinical practice. My training encompasses a number of diverse content areas, such as clinical, developmental, family and substance-related issues, all of which helps enrich my understanding of the challenges that life can present. I believe that people have greater capabilities than they are aware of. My role is to collaborate with you, not tell offer advice, tell you what to do or how to live. I treat all of my clients with dignity and respect and seek active collaboration.

Thank you for taking the time today to review my profile. Beginning the process of psychotherapy can feel like a daunting one. Your ability to feel comfortable and at ease with a therapist can only help you to address difficult or painful parts of your life. My patients tell me that they often feel safe and "at home" when they are working with me. I enjoy working with folks who have been suffering from depression, trauma, loss, and substance abuse. Please feel free to call me to talk about scheduling an appointment.

Hello and welcome! My name is Sarah, I’m an independently licensed social worker, and I’ve been working in the field at a masters level for over 8 years. I first became interested in the work of therapy because I genuinely enjoy connecting with others on a deeper level, and helping my clients better understand themselves and their journey, particularly in those difficult moments where life just isn’t making sense. If you're feeling overwhelmed or overcome by many different obstacles right now, or you'd simply like to talk through a certain challenging experience, you've come to the right place.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Thanatologist, and a musician my unique practice blends two life passions, built on privacy, respect and trust, but most importantly, focusing on hope. I serve people struggling with the fears of life threatening illnesses and life altering transitions. With extended experience I help people cope with past traumas, including stress, anxiety, and depression caused by these fears and losses. Losses may include job, financial security, health, or relationships. Losses alter our lives, causing us to question the meaning of life, and re-prioritize what is important.

I guide people to create change in their lives, and understand this is often a difficult and overwhelming process. My focus is to assist people with creative problem solving, stay goal-oriented, and to ensure you feel validated and truly heard. By exploring your feelings, thoughts, physiology, and experiences, you’ll come to feel, learn, heal, and grow. It’s not always fun or easy- soul work is hard work. But I strive to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and nurturing space for you to become empowered and create agency in your life. It’s time to focus on caring and nurturing yourself. Because it really does start with you.

Cancer Therapists

How does cancer affect mental health?

A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.

What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?

The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?

Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.

How long does cancer therapy typically last?

The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
