Are you are constantly juggling tasks and putting out fires without addressing your own needs? Would you label yourself a caretaker, teacher, or maybe even the "responsible friend" everyone relies on? Do you find it challenging to express yourself, prioritize your own needs and feeling suffocated by responsibilities and leaving you feeling drained and overlooked? How about wondering where your own dreams and desires went amidst the chaos of daily routines?

Need help finding your voice in relationships? Feeling adrift from your sense of self? Want to engage more fully with your life energy? I am here to support you in the healing process of connecting with your body and voice to lead a fuller and more satisfying life. Many of us receive messages that we are supposed to stay quiet, or only present certain acceptable parts of ourselves, in order to be loved and accepted. We stifle our feelings and thoughts, and then start feeling disconnected from ourselves and the relationships we value.

The past few years have been really tough! Did you feel like you had it all together & then the rug was pulled out from under you? Maybe you experienced trauma when you were younger & thought you had moved past it. Now you feel frustrated, isolated, & alone. Maybe you are feeling triggered by your kids, spouse, partner, parents, or friends. You love them, but the pandemic has caused you to want to take a month-long vacation from them! You have tried dealing with your anxiety, anger, stress, all on your own but you are struggling to stay afloat-yelling at loved ones, working too much.

Life is tough at best, traumatic at worst. People let us down or we let ourselves down. We may repeat patterns that once seemed to work for us, but are now impeding our growth. Often we know what we "should" do to feel better, but can't seem to actualize our intentions. Or we become so overwhelmed with messages that we have to fix ourselves that over time our resolve weakens and we feel stuck, frustrated, and helpless. It can feel uncomfortable to ask for help when we're struggling, but we are not wired to walk this life alone; we all need a safe space where we can share our hurts, disappointments, and losses.

I AM accepting new clients in person and via telehealth, email is best for initial correspondence with me. I am incredibly proud of you for taking steps to find a therapist. Finding the “right fit,” is imperative. I view therapy as a collaborative process between two humans. I always offer ample respect, dignity and compassion to everyone I encounter. I focus primarily on evaluating children, adolescents and adults through Psychological or Psychoeducational Testing. Testing can I help people to discover their intellectual strengths and weaknesses, learning style, emotional triggers and better ways to deal with stress or confusion. In addition to diagnosing things like ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Asperger's, Autism, Mood Disorders and Learning Disabilities (something most school systems are unable to do when testing students who are struggling), I can help kids and adults access the services (e.g., therapeutic, educational, vocational and/or pharmacological) that are most likely to improve the quality of their lives.

My specialties are working with women, couples, and families, using a strength based, solution focused approach.
I have over 20 years of experience working with women, couples, and families, primarily addressing challenges at different stages of marriage and raising a family. In addition , issues women frequently face, depression, anxiety, work/life balance, and parenting are an area of special interest. My approach is systemic, viewing people in context of their family, communities, educational situations, beliefs and values that shape how their world is viewed. I support individuals and families to advocate for themselves, and, if appropriate, link people with community resources that might be helpful on their journey.

Ziva Wellness was started to fill the gaps in women’s healthcare.
Hi! I'm Kara, and my practice is Ziva Wellness. I see clients from all different types of backgrounds and provide many types of care depending on the needs of the client. I specialize in sex counseling, to help individuals and also those in relationships hoping to become more confident, connected, educated and fulfilled. I put emphasis on the biopsychosocial model of care, and treat all of those parts as one, focusing on education, support and practical solutions. In addition, I help women facing medical issues, and provide support and education for pregnancy/postpartum or perimenopause transitions.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
