As human beings, we are all seeking safety, joy and connection. Inevitably, roadblocks arise blocking this path. Luckily, the therapeutic process can help a person move through these obstacles. This could mean the dissolving of old wounds, cultivating more fulfilling relationships, or discovering a sense of freedom. The benefits and rewards of healing and growth far outweigh the burden of carrying old traumas and wounds. I would love to help you create a more fulfilling life! I enjoy working clients who wish to explore their authentic nature and are open to learning about their body and unconscious process. LGBTQ friendly.

I work with adults, adolescents and children. I am especially interested in helping men improve their communication skills in intimate relationships, and, in parenting; fostering their ability to identify and articulate their feelings, and, being more empathic of the other person.

<- New sessions available on nights & weekends - New couples welcome -> Are you living with destructive habits or persistent traumas? Our present lives can be weighed down by patterns that were established a long time ago. That can include the over-and-over fights in relationships or the lingering pain from childhood. My goal is to support you to explore how your histories and patterns influence your life today and then to continue the ones that serve you and to change the ones that don’t. I support you to build new boundaries, to quiet shame and to invent new narratives of possibility to achieve the growth you're looking for.

My interest is in mid-to-later life adults (40+) with a focus on the ways in which identity evolves as we age. I use a diverse approach comprised of behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, identity theory, and personal narrative modalities to address identity issues in the face of change across the lifespan such as health-related change, environmental or cultural shifts, personal loss, or traumatic events—experiences that can impact the ways in which we perceive ourselves. When the balance of our lives is challenged, the resulting stress can be difficult to manage.

Life can be difficult--sometimes, unnecessarily hard. People do their best to cope with challenges, but often these coping strategies are destructive, hindering our emotional health and interpersonal relations. I specialize in depression, relationship issues, anxiety, and substance and behavioral addictions. Ideally, I can help you find your true self, and through this journey you can begin to discover what you truly deserve in life.

Hello and thanks for visiting! I've been a clinical social worker and counselor since 2010 and I provide therapy to adults, adolescents, couples (including folks in poly relationships), and family dyads. I work effectively with a broad range of people and concerns - whether you and I are similar in some ways or quite different! Accepting new in-person patients - I consider the overlapping experiences of self, authenticity, identity, regulation, and relationships as central to therapy and the ways in which we make sense of ourselves and others in the world. I work with patients in an empathic, challenging, supportive and relational way toward life changes, as well as to discover coping skills tailored to their particular needs and experiences. I work from a relational, psychoanalytic, psychodynamic and attachment perspective of the whole person.

Mental health difficulties often arise in the context of an absence of close interpersonal relationships. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and severe, persistent mental illness can be successfully treated through improvements in one’s capacity to develop and maintain adaptive, healthy interpersonal connections and engagement in meaningful and enjoyable activities. I have more than 36 years practicing clinical psychology. I retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs on May 31, 2022 and I'm now expanding my private practice. Flexible schedule. I'm available for both teletherapy and in-office session. Lots of free parking.

Are you finding it hard to break free of the same disagreements, while feeling unheard or unrecognized by your partner? I enjoy working with couples and individuals that are struggling with communication, trust, anxiety, depression, recurring disagreements, infidelity and affair recovery, sexual challenges, performance anxiety, and evolving relationship structures. If you want to improve your relationship while addressing what's been avoided in the past, I think we could be a good fit. For couples in crisis, we could discuss Discernment Counseling or an Intensive as a way to address concerns immediately.

Men's Issues Therapists

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
