I primarily work with aging and/or disabled adults and caregivers coping with emotional and health care related challenges. Much of my work with clients focuses on adjustment difficulty related to declining health and diminished functional independence. Clients who are caregivers often struggle with managing career and family caregiving roles and also the needed transitions that can emerge in the latter half of life.

Specialties include: relationships, transitions, family conflict, LGBTQ, gender, anxiety, disabilities and career matters.
I view therapy as a collaborative process of challenging patterns that get in the way of living fully and learning how to become more aligned and balanced. Often we act differently from what we feel or know because our histories, for various reasons, have caused our internal resources to shut down. I aim to to help my clients restore, integrate and utilize their inner strengths.

I am a licensed psychologist who specializes in perinatal mental health and parenting support. Juggling all the needs of self, family, work, & daily life can result in an overwhelming loss of control and losing one’s “self,” which takes a toll on your wellbeing. Whether you’re trying to find your new normal after the newest addition to your family, experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety, trying to process a traumatic birth or NICU experience, or struggling to find parenting methods that work for your child/family, I can help. Raising children takes a village; I can be part of yours.

I have over 20 years of experience in psychotherapy including serving as director of counseling at Westfield State, Truman State, Center for Marriage and Family Therapy at Saint Louis University, and working with refugees and war torture survivors.
A wise therapist once said to me, “life is 10,000 smiles and 10,000 tears.” Such words never rang so true as during these days of loss, fear, and uncertainty due to racial injustice, viral pandemic, and threats to our climate. These events impact us all; although we may not recognize it. Whatever brings you here today, I am here to provide support, compassion, and assistance because life happens…

Among others, this can include Internal Family Systems and body-based approaches.
I am a psychotherapist who works from a relational psychodynamic perspective; I collaborate with clients to explore and narrate who, how, and why you are - aiming for a richer experience of your life. Broadly speaking, my approach is to help you foster a curiosity about and relationship with the various (and often disparate) aspects of your experience. My style is authentic, warm, and accepting, which helps provide a space where you can become comfortable to eventually venture into the deeply uncomfortable to enable growth and change.

I work with adolescents and adults and offer individual, couples, and family therapy.
Psychotherapy is incredibly helpful not just in managing mental health diagnoses such as Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, etc., but it is also a powerful support in navigating the ways in which we can all get stuck in undesired and unhealthy patterns in our lives and relationships. My goal is that your experience of therapy is one in which you feel deeply heard and understood, challenged in healthy ways, and safe and comfortable to explore a wide range of thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a neutral and non-judgmental setting.

My therapy approach is strengths-based, incorporating mindfulness and Internal Family Systems.
Currently accepting new clients! (8/14/24) I help women of color and LGBTQ+ clients dealing with depression and anxiety who want to learn to prioritize themselves– without guilt. My clients are caring people, but only thinking about everyone else has left them tired. They're ready to slow down, treat themselves with kindness, and figure out what's important to them. Often, they also want to learn to be vulnerable so they can feel closer to people. When we begin our work together, they know there's something missing in their lives but they're overwhelmed and don't know how to start making changes.

Our children deserve this. Our elders deserve this. Future generations deserve this. This book is my offering for more cross-movement, intergenerational, neurodivergent, gender-queer, ancestral, abolition-centered, embodied therapeutic work that actually works, and does not devour." <3

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
