My step-by-step therapeutic process offers lasting relief from the effects of physical, emotional and sexual abuse, PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic stress and low self-esteem.
We all have the capacity to experience joy and happiness, but when we carry unresolved trauma of any type, life can become a constant struggle. I specialize in private intensive therapy retreats that offer significant results in days, not years. My retreats combine recent advances in neuroscience and attachment research with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Progressive Counting (PC) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), enabling us to work with your underlying core issues – to get right to the heart of the problem – so that your symptoms are totally eliminated or significantly decreased.

She has years of experience treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, sexual problems, substance abuse, and trauma.
Seeking help can be confusing. How do you know if you are talking to the right person? How does therapy work? It is best to interview a therapist so you can make the best choice FOR YOU! Call me and we can talk about what your needs are, and discuss if working together would be helpful. You are in charge of your own treatment! Therapy works by empowering you in your life. Start the relationship off that way, no matter who you work with. If you don't want to call, go to my website and contact me by email.

I have provided intensive trauma treatment to survivors of violence as well as clients navigating difficult life transitions, loss, systemic oppression, anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
Trauma is often narrowly associated with experiences of overt violence; I work with a much broader understanding. Trauma can emerge from experiences that negatively impact and interfere with daily functioning, and I believe everyone deserves opportunities to heal from visible and invisible wounds. Utilizing an intensive trauma therapy model, I help clients rebuild from life’s most vulnerable moments. I center and honor my clients’ experiential knowledge and, as a mixed-race therapist, recognize the value of creating a safe, non-judgmental space for people who carry intersecting marginalized identities.

They are almost always dealing with profound traumas: abuse and neglect, structural violence, and institutional betrayal, for example.
I provide individual psychotherapy from a psychoanalytic perspective. This means that therapy focuses on getting to know you in a very deep way: your history, your needs, your strengths and weaknesses, and how you'd like to lead your life. Therapy is grounded in a strong working relationship that we cultivate over time, one in which you can feel safe being extremely honest and taking emotional risks.

I've been especially helpful to people dealing with relationship and parenting difficulties, postpartum depression, histories of abuse and trauma, eating and body image issues, addictions, grief & loss, and major life transitions.
Most of us decide to enter into therapy because we are in pain and we want to find ways to end the pain. We feel stuck, without choices. While we are drawn to change and growth, it can also be very scary. As your therapist, I see it as my job to help you find the courage to see yourself clearly, to harness your own strength and resources, and to discover your own answers.

As a former cult member, I help people and their families who have been "unduly influenced." I am committed to helping people reclaim their personal power. I wrote four books including Freedom of Mind, Combating Cult Mind Control, and The Cult of Trump. My online courses include Understanding Cults: A Foundational Course. I help people from all over the world who have found that mental health professionals unless they are specialized in treating cult members, are at best a waste of time and resources, and worse, do further harm. A large part of my practice is short term work with former members.

My client is the expert on my client and my job is to help unlock their innate wisdom. Our troubles are the side effects of adaptations forged by hardship, and we can change them using strengths in ourselves, families and community. Feeling more connected to others involves communication skills, and tolerance for irritation and vulnerability (inevitable in close relationships). Therapy can help you hold your pain differently. You can feel better living with your past, instead of waiting to get rid of it. I help clients to address spiritual roadblocks and to help build a fulfilling and meaningful life, with the pain.

A wise therapist once said to me, “life is 10,000 smiles and 10,000 tears.” Such words never rang so true as during these days of loss, fear, and uncertainty due to racial injustice, viral pandemic, and threats to our climate. These events impact us all; although we may not recognize it. Whatever brings you here today, I am here to provide support, compassion, and assistance because life happens…

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
