I also conduct neuropsychological assessment, including diagnostic testing for autism, learning disabilities, & ADHD.
Everyone deserves to experience joy & fulfillment in life & relationships, including you! At the foundation of my approach is a strong connection between two people that is based on mutual safety, trust, & genuine care. Within this relationship, I am my authentic self by bringing my warmth, dedication, & quirky personality that often puts folks at ease & enables them to more compassionately understand their true selves, strengths & imperfections in all. Through this process of self-exploration, people I work with learn to more honestly attend to & express their emotions, which leads to greater self-acceptance & consequently freedom from self-doubt & low self-esteem.

Know I am continuously and humbly learning with you.
All sessions available in English and Spanish. Through my own and shared life experiences, I have come to know many perspectives throughout the world. Underlying the richness and uniqueness of each culture - racial, ethnic, familial, and all the nuance of what defines us - I have learned there is a common longing: to not only live but to thrive in life; to give and to receive; to have purpose and to know it. Challenges are a given along life’s journey. Contrary to what many believe, to seek help does not make one weak but rather, on some level indicates one is willing and capable of growth and, as needed, of change.

You are brave for being here. You have done your best as a parent, and yet your child is still struggling. It hurts to see them beating themselves down, and selling themselves short when you know who they are at their best. You've heard them say "I'm not good enough," "no one understands me," or "things would be better if I weren't here." Maybe they've turned to self harm to manage their emotions. You want to protect them, help them heal, and show them the beauty you see when you look at them.

Hi there. I don't know what brings you here, but I can listen to your story and do my best to help you through it. Maybe something happened recently and you're just trying to get back to normal, or maybe you've had a mental illness your whole life...either way, if you're looking for someone who will listen, provide support, and help guide you towards insight and acceptance, we may be a good fit. I work well with people who are motivated to try new things and keep an open mind, who are willing to speak about themselves and their experiences honestly.

Life can feel overwhelming, whether our distress stems from not getting what we want, or getting exactly what we wanted and yet somehow still feeling unfulfilled. Anxiety, depression, or battling addiction can lead to feelings of frustration and hopelessness. The process of talking in a therapeutic setting is essential in cultivating self-awareness and obtaining the wisdom to make healthier choices. Each person is unique, and I am committed to finding what works best for every person who seeks my support.

I've been in private practice for 34 years. I've had extensive training in both theoretical and didactic psychotherapy. An important part of my training was my own work and research in understanding myself and my marriage and other important relationships. This is why I think I am so confident at being both a couples therapist and an individual therapist. I believe this is primarily an educational process or a re-educational process.

Education and Learning Disabilities Therapists

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
