My approach to counseling is drawn from many different disciplines, with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). I offer an interpersonal, down to earth, collaborative approach which assists individuals to identify the obstacles to their emotional wellness while helping individuals to develop coping strategies to improve their lives. I strive to meet the client "where they are" and move them forward to heal, change and grow in positive ways.

From the outside you appear put together and accomplished, yet inside you don’t always feel that way. Sometimes you worry about things you can't control, create plans for the possible “what ifs” down the road, and wonder if others will discover that you don’t actually have it all figured out. You can’t calm your mind or find a healthy balance, and it’s getting in the way of your ambitions. You’ve tried managing on your own yet feel stuck. We can work together to harness your inner strengths while mending the parts that make life feel challenging.

My ideal patient comes with an open mind to participate in talk therapy and narrative therapy. Ready to start a process - not necessarily eager to engage but wanting to make a change. They are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

My ideal client is someone who is experiencing anxiety, depression, and the effects of trauma. Ideal clients experiencing these challenges will want to grow, utilize self-reflection, and find ways to cope with personal challenges. Goals could include establishing and maintaining relationships, practicing coping skills, changing behaviors, healing from trauma, and building positive habits. By incorporating CBT and DBT techniques, I will help you develop healthier thought patterns, establish and maintain healthy relationships with yourself and others, and develop skills to manage and tolerate stress.

I became a therapist because I saw early on how men are conditioned not to practice emotional vulnerability and I wanted to model something different in my own life. In the decade since I started down this path, I've met many people grappling with social expectations as I have. My experience working with clients of all backgrounds has reaffirmed for me that, while we all lead very different lives, today's world nudges each of us towards feelings of isolation, anxiety, insecurity, and overwhelm. If you're feeling stuck, burnt out, or just want a nonjudgmental space to explore your emotional landscape, let's chat.

We are living in times where it's hard to feel grounded and secure. The world keeps changing, and most of the time we don't know what is real. This causes most of us to feel anxious and fearful of the world. These are the moments where we must seek shelter in ourselves. To look within to find that feeling of safety and comfort. But that's easier said that done, right? I can help. If you are someone who is willing to look inside, to take back control of your world, to gain insight, and feel empowered in yourself, then I would like to be part of your journey.

We all struggle with the complexities of life and sometimes need a little help. I appreciate that you're considering me as a partner in your therapy. Finding a good fit is an important part of the process, so please feel free to call or email me to get to know me better. My clients have liked that I am open-minded, knowledgable, non-judgemental and caring. And most importantly, they report feeling better after we've worked together.

I'm not sure I believe in an Ideal client; I think all clients are Ideal, no matter their life circumstances. Life is like a rollercoaster, and when you're going down, you may need someone to be there and help talk you through it. However, If I had to choose, it would be a client having difficulty with self-esteem, self-worth, and depressive symptoms and needing additional assistance building coping skills but expressing readiness to change.

I am currently accepting new in-person and telehealth referrals. Life is challenging for everyone especially in a world that is so focused on what is going wrong rather than what is going right. While you cannot often control the difficulties you face, you can decide how you react to them. Everyone can benefit from someone in their life who supports them and helps process their experiences while also challenging the unhelpful thoughts and habits holding them back. My strength-based approach promotes the development of personal confidence and useful skills to manage whatever successes or challenges life presents.

I feel that finding a therapist you 'click with' is one of the most important factors in this search. Life is confusing - people are complicated - the world can be overwhelming - and change can be hard. Therapy is an incredible tool of self-discovery and empowerment. "Good" therapy can be life-changing. Whatever it is you bring in the room, we will work together to identify what is weighing on you or holding you back, untangle threads of old patterns, 'undo' outdated beliefs, and root out any 'stuckness'. Main goals are skill-building, acceptance, empathy, and confidence built from encouraging & appreciating your whole person.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
