In my work with couples, as well as with individuals and families, I strive to help people create the relationships they want. I approach therapy with a warm and collaborative style, asking non-judgmental questions and using a balance of sensitivity and humor. I find that people often get stuck in patterns of relating that aren't working for them, and I assist people in creating new habits, in which they feel heard, respected and cared for.

Having been in practice as a psychologist for more than 30 years, I am convinced that change and growth take place within the safety and warmth of a truly understanding, and collaborative relationship. It has been a privilege to do this work and I am grateful for the opportunity to bear witness and contribute to my patients' lives. Our journeys are often complicated and demanding with places along the way that can be overwhelming, painful and confusing. Awareness and willingness to seek help when you are at an impasse is perhaps the most important step in the process of psychotherapy.

I am a pediatric neuropsychologist with a specialty in Autism. I also have years of experience assessing other referrals including learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety and mood. I believe every lagging skill also offers a strength. My assessment approach is wholistic: In addition to traditional neuropsychological evaluation conducted in my office, I gather perspectives from teachers, caregivers, and other key individuals in your child's life. I prefer, when possible, to observe each child in one other setting outside of my office, usually school. My turn-around time from intake to report is one month. Currently booking May '22

I offer 60 and 90 minute sessions, and specialize in half day trauma therapy intensives. A therapy intensive is an efficient and comprehensive pathway to heal trauma in consecutive days instead of over many years in weekly therapy, and can accelerate symptom relief. I utilize evidence-informed modalities such as EMDR, Progressive Counting, the Flash technique, and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment to effectively heal the roots of distressing emotions and negative beliefs stored within traumatic memories.

My career has followed many paths building inclusive communities prior to becoming a licensed psychologist. I provide a welcoming place for clients to explore and manage life's challenges and concerns, such as stress and anxiety as well as spiritual, religious, or existential questions. As a neuropsychologist, I offer comprehensive evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults. I also work collaboratively with parents and school staff to promote children's full academic, social, and emotional potential. I often use a Jungian approach to gain balance and well-being by appreciating strengths and less developed parts of the self.

As a licensed psychotherapist, I believe therapy needs to be as unique as the individual and originate from a place of compassionate and collaborative curiosity. I take an eclectic approach that draws from somatic, dynamic, and relational schools of thought, with the underlying belief that all individuals already possess the ingredients needed to heal. My background predominantly involves working with teens, young and emerging adults, and athletes.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
