I have helped clients with concerns including, among several others, depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, and life transitions.
I believe that how we interact with others in the present often grew out of lessons learned earlier in life. Sometimes, people use strategies to cope with situations that once made sense but are no longer effective or useful. I also believe that everyone has strengths that can help guide decisions and behaviors in the present. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy, where we become travelers on your journey; we look at concerns, explore their origins and feelings that arise, and discuss how to view and handle situations here and now.

The "Goodness of Fit" between client and therapist, and the treatment modality is important to initiate results.

I am passionate about working with adults (18+) that are struggling with painful life experiences. I provide a safe, accepting environment, using evidence-based modalities for change, and support my clients in the process of healing and becoming the best versions of themselves. My clients are resilient- however, having to be "strong" and in survival mode all the time is exhausting, and it's okay to let your guard down with me. I aim to support my clients in not only surviving, but thriving. My clients ultimately achieve a healthier relationship with themselves, others, and the world around them.

Some of the areas I specialize in are anxiety, OCD, mild ASD, ADHD, adjustment to life events and transitions, parent guidance, stress management, and interpersonal relationship problems.
My style is warm, supportive, active, and down to earth with a sense of humor and creativity, which I think comes with working with a mix of kids, teens, and adults. My approach is to collaborate with you on developing skills and strategies to cope more effectively, as well as understand underlying patterns and past events that contribute to your current situation. We all struggle to see our strengths, at times, and therapy is a place to embrace those strengths and utilize them to balance out the unique challenges we face.

I meet with people to discuss issues related to anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and LGBT topics. I have a special interest in providing support through the uncertainty of a medical diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life. I also walk beside people as they cope with grief and bereavement. If it resonates with the person, I have experience leading mindfulness meditation sessions, which has been proven to alleviate stress and anxiety.

I have worked extensively with children who have been exposed to traumas, suffer anxiety, have sleep issues, peer problems, impulsivity, and self esteem concerns.
I believe that therapy is most effective when there is a warm, supportive relationship between the therapist and child or teen. Does your child suffer from anxiety, trouble getting along with peers, depression, or behavioral problems? Therapy can help you child strengthen and learn new skills to address these concerns.

I work with individuals and families on a range of issues including depression, anxiety, parenting special needs children, relationship issues, divorce, and trauma.
Finding the right therapist with whom to create a strong therapeutic alliance is paramount to success. I work with my clients in a framework of compassion, honesty, trust and safety. Together we will identify your goals, empower you to change what you can in your life and to learn acceptance, not passive resignation, for that which you can not change. Carl Jung put it best, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become”.

At work, are you so overwhelmed by stress that it inhibits clear thinking and decreases concentration. Is it difficult to remain focused? Is your anxiety so intense that your heart races, making it difficult to breathe? Do you sometimes experience panic attacks? Have you recently observed your high school or college student experiencing high levels of anxiety, stress, or sadness? Are there clear signs that they are not functioning at their usual level? Have their grades dropped, are they socializing less, are they complaining that they are sad or having trouble sleeping?

(Online Treatment) Anxiety and panic disorders are impairing conditions. People struggle to control alarming, dreadful, and fearful thoughts including working to avoid the discomfort of anxiety or panic. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based psychological method shown to improve anxiety. CBT therapy is designed to develop your skills in recognizing, evaluating, and correcting alarmist thoughts and behaviors that increase stress, anxiety, and panic attacks. We can work together to help diminish the debilitating effect these disorders may have on your life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
