I employ psychodynamic theory, feminist psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems theory, and solutions-focused therapy in my work.
My practice is devoted to helping women feel more empowered and at ease in their lives. My style in therapy is to encourage the exploration of identified problems from a compassionate and non-judgmental perspective with a solutions-focused orientation. Collaboration is central to my work, including working together to define goals and carefully monitor progress throughout the course of treatment. I work with women to address: mood disturbance, relationship issues, improving work/life balance, substance use/dependence disorders, and perinatal/parenting issues, grief/loss, and menopause.

I take an integrative person-centered approach in my work with clients that often draws on insight-oriented psychotherapy, spirituality, mindfulness, feminist theory, experiential approaches, creativity, parts work, ecotherapy and dream work.
Accepting new clients (morning & early afternoon availability- primarily telehealth). Limited availability for therapeutic nature walks in the Canton area. Are there things you are ready to let go of (or embrace)? Are you ready to dive more deeply into your experience of being alive? Do you wonder how childhood experiences might still be affecting you today? Are you struggling with anxiety or low self esteem? I can help you explore your relationship to others, the world, and yourself and help you reconnect with your inner wisdom in order to live a more aligned and intentional life.

I have a virtual practice in several states on the East coast and am able to practice in close to 40 others. Online therapy is the new wave as a result of the pandemic and beyond. Telehealth offers not only additional safety but greater convenience in your already busy life. I studied psychology at Harvard University, Berkeley and the University of San Francisco. I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The California Institute in San Francisco.

As a trauma-focused therapist, I work with clients who are ready to explore their inner selves. Together, we uncover life experiences and patterns that have led to negative self-beliefs. These beliefs can be subtle and may manifest as anxiety, perfectionism, or depression. Often, though not always, they originate from childhood through one significant event or repeated smaller experiences that impart negative messages to a developing mind. Our goal is to release these old beliefs, alleviate the symptoms, and create a path toward a more peaceful and fulfilling future.

My area of specialization is with the perinatal (pre-conception, pregnancy, postpartum) population, particularly supporting individuals undergoing fertility challenges. It can be isolating for a variety of reasons, which may lead to increased anxiety, depression, and anger. As a person with my own infertility experience, I offer a safe space of understanding, where I "know the language." My goal is to build an empathetic and trustworthy relationship to offer support with self-advocacy, validation, and personal challenge to ensure you have the information and calm you seek.

My approach is informed by an anti-oppressive, feminist, and identity-affirming lens.
I am an integrative, trauma-focused, queer therapist dedicated to helping people understand themselves better. I particularly enjoy working with clients who want to be in more authentic, connected relationships with partners and family members, want to better understand how trauma has impacted their life and shed patterns that are no longer useful, or want to parent differently than they were parented. My areas of specialized training include interpersonal trauma and PTSD (sexual assault, childhood abuse, domestic violence), attachment and relationships, perinatal mental health, and infant/early childhood mental health.

“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.”--Unknown The decision to seek help is one that is often arrived at after long periods of suffering. We so often cling to what is familiar, even when what is familiar is causing us and those around us tremendous pain. We go to great lengths to avoid coming face to face with our vulnerability, and unknowingly prolong our suffering despite our best efforts to master it. For many of us, we simply do what we know, choosing the familiarity of pain over the inherently fear-inducing path of change. Simply stated--change is hard. While change is inevitably challenging, it does not have to be undertaken alone. Finding a qualified therapist to support you through this process can make a significant difference in both the outcome and the process.

I'm NOT taking new clients right now....Creating emotional intelligence involves many things: understanding mood changes and why certain circumstances create anxiety; communicating better in relationships and expressing feelings more positively; building skills as a parent or understanding what it means to go from couple to family. If we are in transition, in gender or in life purpose, we want to create a firmer sense of identity and direction. We want insight and the ability to create a future unbound to a traumatic past. We want to create new patterns of behavior and thinking that enhance our connection to others.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
