I provide a safe space for kids to process their feelings and experiences, resolve any internal conflicts that are leading to behavior issues, and ultimately achieve optimal growth and development.
Whether it be social or emotional struggles, challenging behaviors, trouble relating to others in positive ways, or working through fears, depression, stress, trauma, or a family crisis, I meet every child and their family where they are at. I use a strength-based approach and interactive, hands-on, and creative interventions, including play and expressive arts, in addition to talk that allow kids to communicate freely, naturally, and in ways that build confidence and a sense of mastery over their struggles.

Problem areas I often address are anxiety, depression, parenting difficulties, life change, or behavioral problems.
The road to finding peace of mind and a clear vision for one's life can be difficult to navigate. Acknowledging that you desire change is often the first step towards clarity. Many then find that they need further guidance, which is what has likely brought you here. I believe it is important for my clients to recognize and then use their strengths, past successes, supportive relationships (including the therapeutic one) and own hopes to obtain whatever goal they set forth. Moving forward I hope to build a strong and supportive therapeutic relationship which we can use toward a self-fulfilling and clear future.

In my psychotherapy, I employ relational- and cognitive-behavioral principles to help individuals reach their desired goals.
Young people's lives are now moving at a faster pace; they encounter more complexity and demands with each day. Thus, they find themselves more overwhelmed than ever before. I will work with you in a collaborative and respectful manner to identify meaningful targets that can be gainfully addressed.

I believe that individuals can improve their relationships and lives through insight and acceptance, and by changing problematic behaviors. I offer support and guidance by creating a collaborative, welcoming, and empathic therapy environment. The relationship between client and therapist is an important part of the work, and I pay close attention to this dynamic as therapy progresses. My clients are typically college students, adults, and parents looking for guidance. My approach is informed by Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) therapies, I also draw from other modalities to customize treatment to each individual's therapy goals.

It takes courage to decide to change and to reach out to a therapist to join you on that journey. The best outcomes occur in the context of a therapeutic relationship that feels like the right match for you, in terms of the therapist's interpersonal style, approach, and expertise. My goal as a therapist is to collaborate with my clients to make the changes they are seeking in their relationships, their self-understanding, their unwanted patterns of behavior, and their mood. My approach is active, supportive, warm, respectful, compassionate, and strength-focused. I use multiple approaches to help clients find solutions.

Compassion is the most significant and integral component of therapy. My goal is to create a warm, respectful environment in which clients feel comfortable exploring their innermost feelings. Genuine and empathic in my approach, I believe in the strength of the individual to face life's challenges and to create new patterns of behavior and communication. I also believe clients must have compassion for themselves. Such compassion will lead to greater curiosity of the self and acceptance of one's experiences. This, in turn, enables the individual to see more clearly, gain new perspectives and find new solutions.

Behavioral Issues Therapists

What happens in therapy for behavioral issues?

No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behavior issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.

What therapy types help with behavioral issues?

Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.

How long does therapy last for behavioral issues?

Among popular approaches to treating behavioral concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behavior management, often used when the underlying cause of behavior issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioral issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.

How effective is therapy for behavior issues?

Studies show that therapy for behavior issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behavior later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behavior. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
