Every day, we must fit into many different roles no matter who we are and these roles include employee, parent, child, student, partner, etc.
Do you ever feel like all you can do is throw your arms up in the air? Do you just want to feel like a whole person again? Whether it is work, school, finances, relationships, children or some other source of stress, an excellent way to get back on confident feet is to work with a skilled clinician such as myself. Therapy can help build coping skills to manage life challenges, gain skills to redirect misguided or distorted thoughts and process emotions in order to have a better understanding of personal needs and how to meet them.

The decision to seek counseling is a decision to make change happen in your life! While the idea of counseling can be frightening to a person, the process of counseling is often rewarding and quite meaningful. Whether you are struggling with decisions that need to be made, or a personal behavior you wish to change, or a view on your life circumstances that would benefit from an adjustment, counseling can be helpful and can assist you in changing the path of your life to a more rewarding and joyful one.

It has amazed me how strong individuals truly are and brave for sharing some of their experiences with me in hopes of becoming a better version of themselves. There in no circumstance too small or too great that one can not overcome to have a better quality of life that they deserve. No one has all the answers or the best therapy approaches it's about trusting in the process and yourself. If your willing to try , we are willing to listen.

My goal is to foster a trusting relationship between myself and the client to encourage understanding, growth, change, and success.
Everyday living is not without stressors. How we react to events or interact in relationships can be a struggle as well as puzzling. Why do we feel the way we do? Why do we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again? How can our perceptions be so different from others? How do early experiences impact our perceptions, feelings, and behaviors? I provide a safe, comforting environment for you to explore and reflect on your past and recent experiences, feelings, and relationships. My approach is to facilitate change based on your expressed needs and goals.

Are you finding yourself in unproductive patterns within your life or within your relationship? Are struggling to maintain your boundaries? I find that unhealed wounds and negative thought processes can keep people stuck. This may prevent you from being able to engage in ways you would prefer. With guidance, clients create a solid foundation for themselves enabling them to function from a place that promotes personal growth and healthier relationships.

The therapeutic relationship is the most important part of therapy! Connecting with a new therapist can be a difficult process in the best of times, doubly hard during COVID while we do everything virtually.
My orientation is focused on seeing an individual within the context of their family, their work, their community. I will be a compassionate listener. But therapy requires more than compassionate listening. To have effective therapy is to be challenged in the way we think, feel, and live. My clinical style is to find solutions while staying rooted in compassion and understanding. I specialize in working with college-age individuals and young professionals.

Increased communication with couples is my favorite part of this work.
I created Upswing Counseling Services because time and time again I hear people feel that they are invalided in health care settings. I want clients to understand that they will drive services and their treatment.

Currently I provide individual, intimate partner, and family therapy.
I am a queer and transmasculine identified family therapist licensed in MA. I am most passionate about family systems work, having trained at the University of Massachusetts in marriage and family therapy. I support people best when approaching treatment through the lens of the systems they are a part of. I believe that people do not exist in a bubble. The interactions that we have with others influence the ways we move through the world. I work with people on understanding these interactions in unique ways to better serve their futures.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
