In addition to Art Therapy, I utilize cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapy to address trauma, anxiety, depression and adjustment issues as well as to treat a variety of other diagnosis and women specific issues.
Hello! Thanks for stopping by. Currently accepting virtual or in person clients for my Mendon location in September! Are you feeling like you are struggling to be the best version of yourself? Feeling stuck or hopeless, having family stress, life transition stress? I believe that everyone can benefit from counseling- even the most capable and healthy people can go through low or dark times which might require a little extra support. For those with more serious mental illnesses, these times can exacerbate existing struggles, making everything feel harder.

I offer evidence-based, client centered, treatments delivered with compassion, humor and intelligence. My job satisfaction comes from seeing large changes in my clients over a short period of time. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and include elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Art Therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a psychosocial intervention that is the most widely used evidence-based practice for improving mental health. Guided by empirical research, CBT focuses on the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems and changing unhelpful patterns in cognitions (e.g. thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes), behaviors, and emotional regulation.

I tend to use a CBT approach, and when appropriate creative interventions ( art therapy, journaling, behavior charts, etc) for personal growth can be incorporated.
I currently have daytime openings virtual or in office. Life can be really challenging and if you feel overwhelmed by it all, you are not alone. Through my work in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings I have witnessed first-hand how damaging stress, anxiety, depression, insecurities, loneliness, and low self-esteem can be. Often current coping measures are causing more harm than good, and new ways need to learned. Clients hold the expertise regarding their lives and they know what is helpful and what they are willing to try.

I graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Notre Dame College in 2016; And a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from Sacred He art University in 2020. I am currently attending Bay Path University for a second Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I've worked in health care for over 25 years along with having case management, client advocacy, life coaching, reserves officer training, and private investigation experience. I understand that a one-fit-all model does not work for everyone as several factors impact an individual’s life. I believe mindfulness, integrity, and autonomy are key towards client-counseling success.

Life can be challenging. There are many things that it can be so tough to talk about with others in your life. Perhaps you are struggling to get up out of bed, and are having trouble keeping things in order. Or maybe you are so busy taking care of other people that you have little to put into yourself. Tough to focus and keep your mind on task? Spiraling thoughts that keep you up at night? Or maybe wanting to heal from the pain of the past?

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
