With that said, I see people struggling with depression, anxiety, unresolved childhood or adult trauma, grief, mood swings, problematic substance use, relationship problems, and sexual dysfunction problems.
My name is Daniel Quinn, LICSW and I have been a psychotherapist for more than 35 years. I provide both individual and couple's therapy. I use evidence-based methods to work with my clients on achieving their desired goals. In couples therapy, I find the Gottman Method and family-of-origin approaches to be very effective. For issues around sexuality in a relationship, I find the Sensate Focus method to be very helpful. In individual therapy, I use the appropriate method to match the struggles and goals of each client.

I have been working as a psychotherapist for 16 years. I primarily saw individual clients in outpatient clinics until 2012, but I also developed an interest in working with couples since starting my private practice 13 years ago. Individual therapy still accounts for the majority of my client caseload, as I specialize in alleviating depression, anxiety, mood regulation, substance/alcohol use, and communication difficulties. I primarily use the treatment modalities of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy, but establishing a therapeutic alliance is most important to start.

How do you define good health and well-being? Stress, anxiety, and depression are part of life, especially post pandemic. At times life can feel chaotic and overwhelming for everyone. Knowing when to access help is an important part of managing overall health. As you know, stress and anxiety will always appear and reappear in our lives. Therapy may help you develop an understanding of how to live with stress and anxiety in a healthy way. Learning to change your relationship with negative thoughts, gain insight and awareness to unhealthy behavior, and learning to cultivate healthy thoughts and behavior are all part of the process.

We might be anxious about the future or feel stuck in repeating a pattern that is holding us back.
My approach is conversational, flexible, and collaborative. When we meet, I strive to offer compassion, support, and humor to help you best meet your goals. I am flexible in my approach, as there is no one “right way” to help you move toward your goals. Together we will find an approach that is most reflective of who you are and speaks to your strengths. Throughout this process, we will remain curious about your experience and integrate an understanding of your past and present that can inform your future. This process can be challenging, as well as exciting and empowering.

I specialize in issues including trauma, depression, anxiety, life-transitions, and relationship issues. I provide therapy to adults, young adults, and students through a personalized approach for each client. I believe that developing a non-judgmental and client-centered approach to therapy is key to feeling better each day. In therapy, a thoughtful review of stressors, trauma, and relationships helps to build a better context around the client's challenges and informs treatment. Therapy involves building an understanding of how past relationships and experiences inform and affect our actions and emotions.

I'm interested in working with people facing down the effects of Depression, Anxiety and ADHD.
Hi I'm Henry, a therapist at Mountain View Therapy. Long before I began to work as a therapist, I have believed that narrative has a unique power to help us define both our experience and identity. I graduated with a degree in film and medieval history from Marlboro College, then worked in production and as an actor on independent films, before moving to digital marketing. Eventually I turned to social work. I received my Master of Social Work degree from Boston University in 2022. Before joining Mountain View Therapy, I helped veterans struggling with homelessness, addiction and post-traumatic stress in the Somerville area.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
