Female Therapists in Medfield, MA
In working with clients, I consider the whole person, their mind, their body, their spirit. These three aspects aren’t separate but are in dynamic conversation: chronic physical symptoms are connected to our mental and emotional states, our feelings of depression relate to how we treat and relate to our bodies and sensorial lives. I enjoy supporting people facing life’s challenges, who are looking for a somatic dimension to their healing. I specialize in helping clients navigate difficult relationships, cope with grief and chronic illness, process the pandemic, and manifest greater depth, vibrancy, and purpose in their lives.

As an experienced clinician, I find myself most compatible with individuals who seek to make positive changes in their lives. I support my clients in their efforts to confront their challenges and overcome emotional barriers. I work best with adults who feel burdened with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or relationship issues. I welcome individual clients and couples, who seek to address the conflicts in their relationships. I value the capacity to laugh and learn, and I encourage my clients to embrace these as recovery tools. Additionally, my clients must love, or at least like basset hounds, as they are my receptionists.

Without support and strategies to help balance your time and manage your anxieties, you’re likely headed towards burnout. Perhaps you’re already there.

This practice is based upon the reality that a mother’s wellbeing cannot be understood or supported without respect for her “mom work.” Mom work is invisible work. So - mom worry, mom anxiety, mom blues, mom guilt, and most especially, mom anger, becomes a negative judgment of a mother's "normalcy," rather than what it truly is: mom reality. Not a diagnosis, not “what’s wrong with me,” not an inability to do the work. Just mom reality, unsupported by respect for her work, and ultimately, unsustainable. Unless we push back to reclaim this ancient journey. You may wish to glance at my website to explore what I mean by this.

My specialties include supporting and guiding women toward personal emotional, physical and spiritual wellness and healthier relationships with ourselves and others.
Have you had a great idea, a POP, only to talk yourself out of it? Started a project but abandoned it, telling yourself it was too overwhelming or just not doable? Wanted to try something new or different and been discouraged by your own thoughts or the words of others? We all have, haven’t we? I certainly have. So what is the driver behind our stopping, getting distracted, being “too busy” and talking ourselves out of actions and desires that will lead to greater fulfillment or happiness? Fear! Fear stops us from all things possible, from opening up and receiving the brilliance that this lifetime offers!

Leanne Thomas has been in clinical private practice for 6 years and in the social work field since 2011. She uses a CBT framework focusing on our learned thought/behavior habits, challenging our inner narrative, and tuning into our most authentic selves. She finds it can also be helpful to incorporate a bit of neuroscience to help explain the "why behind the what" when it comes to our experience and mental health. We have a lot of control over how we want to construct our lives, and I am happy to help you feel empowered to do so.

I have been a social worker for over 25 years. During that time I have had the opportunity to work with many individuals and families experiencing a variety of issues including trauma, addiction, grief and loss, relationship issues and stress. When left unresolved, these issues often cause other problems that prevent us from living our best lives. In therapy, we will collaborate as a team to work towards achieving your goals. I use a client-centered approach and think that developing the client-therapist relationship is essential to helping you address and alleviate the concerns you are having.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
