I have over 20 years of clinical experience. I have worked with teenage/adolescent boys, children, and young men in just about every sector within this demographic. I have experience in treating adult men who are struggling with emotional regulation and their ability to effectively relate and communicate with their families/spouses. I am skilled at providing "parent coaching;" a modality that provides parents who may be struggling with their child/teen insight, understanding, and applicable solutions on how to improve their relations. I have extensive experience working with couples as well.

I excel in the removal of anxiety, stress and depression along with cravings. This can be accomplished in 1 or 2 sessions via telehealth the rest of therapy is learning how to totally disempower anxiety, stress, depression, cravings etc. Also, I am experienced in dealing with spiritual issues, but it is up to the client to bring up that subject. I am also good with couples. I rework childhood issues, trauma +PTSD. My goal is to empower the client(s) so that I basically work myself out of a job. I also work with addictions + ADHD + EMDR. I accept all insurances. I have a sliding scale. Minimum is $100/session max is $210.

I have three offerings for summer 2024: 1) For parents of babies and toddlers who aren't meeting their milestones or who you just have a gut instinct that they could use some support, I will be offering in home sessions to develop language, connection, and play skills using connected play and verbal behavior approaches and also support for parents. 2) behavioral play sessions for elementary age to work on social skills, tolerance skill, communicating needs, and coping strategies; this can be a sibling group to facilitate shared play and cooperation and negotiation skills.

I believe in the family, no matter what shape it takes, as an essential part of a healthy life. Cultivating family connection and communication is at the heart of the work that I do as therapist. It has always been my greatest joy to see families reunite and function at a more intimate and higher level of mutual understanding and support. I hope that if you or your family are struggling you will contact me. I am confident I can help you change the patterns and habits that have created conflict in your family, if you are willing to do the work!

NOTE: I am currently full but my coworkers in my office have some room and have similar areas of expertise! Clients who work with me will be getting an authentic, genuine and relational experience versus the feeling of talking with someone cold, overly clinical or robotic. My favorite clients to work with are those who are part of the queer community, neurodivergent or who have a trauma history. I aim to work from a client-centered perspective and understand the importance of cultural humility in this work, particularly when working across differences.

Filling your schedule to the brim for fear of panicked thoughts entering your mind. Any opening for idleness, even while driving or in the shower, offers space for the ‘what if’s’ and negative thoughts to swirl about endlessly. Feeling lost and out of control of your own life. You feel stuck yet untethered and free falling through life. Wanting to take back control of your thoughts and behaviors and not let anxiety have so much power over what you do or how you feel about yourself.

I believe the mind-body connection plays an important role in mental health and I utilize approaches such as mindfulness, relaxation techniques, exercise and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in order to promote emotion regulation, stress management and overall mental wellness. I believe building a safe and trusting relationship is the core for successful counseling, and once established, incorporating these skills to express and manage emotions and stress.

I am currently accepting clients for morning appointments only. I believe that trust is the cornerstone to a successful therapy relationship and that effective treatment balances both acceptance and change. I allow my clients time to warm up to both me and the therapy process. My goal is to provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for clients to address whatever challenges they may be facing and I do use humor when appropriate in session. I love meeting new clients and helping them reach their full potential.

My practice is dedicated to making clients feel relaxed so that they are comfortable talking about their feelings and understand that they are being heard and validated. My office is in a quiet setting unlike a doctors office and we often take walks in abutting bogs with my therapy dog Lulu an English lab. My goal is to work with the client to establish an individualized treatment plan with their specific goals and timeline considered and provide strategies and coping skills they can utilize in the future

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
