My approach is eclectic and individualized including (but not limited to) CBT, Strengths-Based Therapy, EMDR, Meditation/Mindfulness.
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" (Tao Te Ching). I know how hard that first step can be. I have been a therapist for over 20 years, and I'm here to help you through struggles and teach you techniques and coping skills that can help you manage your stress levels, communicate better with loved ones, achieve a balance between work and relaxation, and change patterns that no longer serve you. I have extensive experience working with adults, adolescents, couples and families and used evidence based treatments.

I love integrating trauma-informed therapies like EMDR and polyvagal theory to provide practical ways to heal and help you make sense of what has been happening.
You’re ready to heal from the past and from the years worth of stress you’ve carried on your shoulders. You want to fully step into the “new you”, to be present, and enjoy your life and the people in it. Instead, you spend your days overwhelmed, stressed, and unsure of what your next steps should be. Your mind races at night, with all the things that could go wrong.

The body-centered, mindfulness-based psychotherapy approaches include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization Response (EMDR), Life Force Yoga level 1 & Brain Spotting.
I specialize in depression, anxiety and trauma, and the use of alternative psychotherapy approaches. (However, I do offer traditional approaches). These new psychotherapies are body-centered and mindfulness-based. In other words, we are more than our thoughts - we are our sensations, feelings and that something which is greater than the self, the transpersonal. These new psychotherapies work directly with client's moment to moment awareness of what is felt or sensed within the body. These felt sensed experiences are then processed through cognition which then allow for the opportunity of insight, change and healing.

The early stages of EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing include practicing to calm one's nervous system.
Mrs. Israelian-Dillon is a Child and Adolescent trauma specialist who treats anxiety and depression in patients by integrating several empirically evident approaches including EMDR. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is recognized by the World Health Organization, The American Psychiatric Association, The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense as the preferred method of reducing trauma. This specialized therapy helps our brains heal from a negative incident much like how our bodies heal when we are injured. Negative beliefs based in the past are released through bilateral brain stimulation.

I am trained in EMDR and I am certified in the RTM Protocol (Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memory) both are effective treatments for PTSD and trauma related symptoms.
The past informs the present to help the future. Although we are not the sum of our problems, our early experiences with caregivers heavily influence how we operate in every aspect of life. I focus on helping people to overcome the challenges of trauma and PTSD symptoms and to understand the influence of these on relationships. An important part of the work I do is assisting loved ones of people with addiction who often find themselves dealing with significant anxiety, depressive symptoms, and relationship difficulties.

But specific treatments are- Cognitive Processing Therapy, EMDR, CBT, and Exposure- with mountains of research showing their effectiveness.
I specialize in trauma &PTSD in adults. I also offer supervision, training and consultation. PTSD is a hidden wound that can hijack the mind and body. People often express deep feelings of shame, guilt, fear, sadness, anger, intrusive thoughts, feeling on guard, feeling distant from the joys in life, struggling with esteem, relationships and trust, a sense of profound "stuckness" accompanied by a disbelief that things could change or get better. Some have tried therapy for years with minimal relief from PTSD. For others this is their first time addressing their trauma. A life without PTSD seems unreachable...but it's not.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
