Be the partner or parent you always thought you'd be.
Does it feel like you're shouting for help and nobody can hear (or nobody cares)? Family, work, relationships, can all feel so overwhelming. You want to be it all and do it all but you're losing yourself. It feels like nobody understands, even when you try to explain. We get told that relationships, family, platonic, and romantic, require "good communication", but nobody every teaches you what that means, so it always feels as though you're being misunderstood. You're snapping at your partner, your kids aren't listening, and inside you're screaming. Call me, I can unweave the knot and help you feel like you again.

I have extensive training in trauma, anxiety diagnosis, couples counseling, parent training, and depression.
Well good for you. I know it is hard to reach out to a perfect stranger and divulge your life's "junk"! Is this your step 1 or 1001? It does not matter if you have tried this many times before. I believe that timing and the right fit is key to success in anything we humans do. Have you tried talking to a trusted friend, colleague, significant other, parents or siblings? Starting today erase all the negative thoughts from your mind! Wouldn't that be nice if it was that easy! Let me walk with you on your path!

Waitlist for new clients
Wait List-please email or call to join wait list-Women are often faced with many challenges over the course of a lifetime. Navigating adolescence, motherhood, parenting, and life transitions (even positive ones) can sometimes lead to uncertainty, anxiety, mixed emotions, stress, and feeling overwhelmed. We all deserve to have support and knowledge to help us through these challenges so that we can feel better for ourselves and for our families. Mood concerns related to pregnancy and postpartum often go unrecognized and untreated. Most often, when recognized, these concerns can be successfully treated.

You may be feeling overwhelmed by stress and anxiety - whether it’s from external demands or internal struggles. Maybe it's social anxiety, "a life transition," or healing from trauma. Or maybe it's something more general, like you want to feel more "in control" of your emotions…and your life. I can help. Together, we’ll uncover the roots of your challenges, empowering you to move forward - with skill and confidence. I use “treatments that work” (CBT, DBT, mindfulness, etc). But we’ll find what works for YOU. Lastly, I don’t just want you to just “feel better.” I want you to live your best life. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Dr. David Cuna's life story is a testament to the transformative power of perseverance, education, and compassion. Born in the remote Angolan village of Cuximane in Maquela do Zombo, Angola, he faced significant challenges early on. Growing up without basic amenities like electricity and clean water, his access to formal education was limited to the 4th grade. However, his unwavering determination and thirst for knowledge propelled him on a journey that would change his life and inspire others. He established the Cuna Wellness Center, a private clinical practice that allows him to impact the lives of others directly.

Our broad goal––of course––is “the end of unnecessary suffering.” Sound about right? While we all strive for this, I specialize in helping folks with a very-unique kind of suffering: OCD. I can tell you that few people understand the pain and complexity of OCD—(even most therapists). I will listen intently to your unique story. Just know that I can introduce you to an arsenal of tools that can help: mindfulness, ERP (exposure and response prevention) and on and on. Yes, thoughts can be “sticky.” But––with hard work––if (or when) those thoughts come back around…they can be as quiet & as harmless as a yellow post-it.

Corey Kilmartin is dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), their families and caretakers, LGBTQ+ clients, and those facing challenges related to trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Having a disability requires more than finding new and creative ways to navigate the world, it can often lead to struggles with how to manage daily tasks and social interactions or how to cope with the emotional impact of being a caretaker or loved one of someone with IDD. Families and loved ones must also navigate their roles and all the changes in relationship dynamics.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
