Since 1990 I have helped people with anxiety, depression, addiction issues, relationships, life transitions, loss, illness, pain, healing, creative challenges, recent and past trauma, and high sensitivity (HSP).
My intention is to help people discover lasting pathways to feel better. I will bring my warmth, heart, experience and presence to our unique collaboration as we focus on how you want to feel in your life. I practice a body-centered approach to counseling. Woven through our talking together will be periods of mindfulness and tuning in as a way to deepen awareness, growth and healing. When we have the support we need--we feel more freedom to be ourselves emotionally, intellectually, physically and spiritually. As distortions release--we naturally heal, improve our relationships, and make authentic life choices that feel good.

I have experience in the areas of disability, chronic pain, parenting, autism, attachment, anxiety, depression, transition to adulthood, trauma, and maternal mental health.
Therapy works best when the client and therapist are a good fit. I believe we all get stuck at times and could use support. I would like to be the person to help you make sense of how the events in your life have shaped you and recognize what gets in your way to living a more fulfilling life.

*Check class offerings, no new pts* People come to psychotherapy because they are uncomfortable. As a psychologist, my approach is collaborative and supportive, encouraging movement towards greater health, happiness, and ease in life. Often this requires both self-acceptance and the development of skills and resources to change in desired directions. I have an integrative approach that draws on several theoretical models to meet the unique needs and interests of each person, emphasizing mindfulness. My specialties include relationship issues, health and behavioral psychology, substance abuse, trauma, anxiety and mood regulation.

If you're ready to take your life back you've come to the right place. Longmeadow-Counseling.com

Therapy can be a great tool whether you're feeling depressed or anxious, having trouble dealing with stress or stuck in a rut. Just as each individual is unique, so is each course of therapy. I recently relocated to Longmeadow from the Boston area where I've been providing therapy since 2005. I work with individuals, children, teens, college students and families. You will find that my style is compassionate, non-judgmental and empowering.

Are you feeling exhausted by the effort it takes to keep "pushing down" your worries and sadness? Especially if you have a history of trauma, it can feel like a losing battle keeping all of this at bay, but it doesn't have to. If you are ready for some relief, I can help. Acknowledging pain doesn't erase strength, and tending to it doesn't require "falling apart" in the process. I can help you put your past where it belongs: behind you. I start by strengthening the resiliency and coping strategies you already have, and adding more.

I often meet clients when they feel stuck or overwhelmed. They feel uncertain about how to move forward or don't have the supports they need to do so, and may feel as if every day is a battle. In our work together, I provide validation and reflection, pulling from the many strengths you already have. At times, life can feel too overwhelming to even see past the next few days. In those moments, our work is about grounding in the here and now, developing skills to manage stress, and having space to process. I enjoy working with clients navigating issues related to fertility & pregnancy, parenting, trauma, and climate-related anxiety.

Chronic Pain Therapists
How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
