My expertise includes treating anxiety disorders, depression, codependency, trauma, alcoholic family systems, and supporting adults through life transitions, grief and loss.
Welcoming New Patients - Easy, Secure Telemed (In-person currently unavailable) Over the past two years, the pandemic has illuminated areas in our lives that no longer serve our physical or emotional wellbeing, and highlighted the need for support and healing on many levels. If you are interested in taking a deeper look at the thoughts, fears, and unhealed aspects contributing to distress, I welcome this opportunity to work together.

We often judge our insides based on other people's outsides. The shame of feeling alone can lead us to shape shift; squeezing into fragmented versions of what we think we are supposed to be or feel. In our work together we can explore the "You" beyond your representative self and find ways to express the parts of yourself who want to be seen and known.

You work hard to keep it all together on the outside, so people don't see that inside you often feel shaky and exhausted. It's true you've achieved a lot in your life, but that doesn't stop you from feeling you don't belong, aren't enough. It may feel like anxiety, co-dependency, and low self-esteem have been a part of your life for as long as you can remember. One thing is sure: you’re ready for relief. You’re ready to connect with a sense of ease and self-love so you can enjoy the success you've earned. You're ready to let your whole messy, complicated, beautiful self be known and loved in close, lasting relationships. I can help!

The ideal client is open to receiving advice and implementing it into their daily lives. The client may have issues with substance abuse due to a lack of healthy coping skills. The client's needs are to improve the quality of work-life balance. It is also important for clients to learn healthy coping strategies to cope with anxiety, depression, and other underlying mental health disorders that are often the underlying cause of substance abuse.

I am currently accepting new clients! Email is always ideal for communication. Currently I am meeting individuals remotely and in person at this time. We all struggle for short or long periods of time in our lives; however, everyone has the ability to learn new skills to overcome and succeed no matter the circumstances. Each and every person deserves the right to pursue their happiness and at times we all need a little help along the way. I allow for a serene, reflective, non-judgmental atmosphere.

Are you struggling to communicate effectively with your partner or family members? Do you feel like your relationships are stuck in a rut? It doesn't have to stay that way. Everyone has time in their life when they need help. I am here to listen and to offer my expertise and knowledge. My favorite part of therapy is not done alone. It takes at least two people or more to work together to work through problems, figure out goals, and develop strategies to reach them.

My ideal patient is someone who engages fully with me during our entire 60-minute session. They are open to suggestions and eager to try new approaches to their treatment. This patient understands that therapy is about progress, not perfection, and recognizes that sometimes the process may unfold more slowly than anticipated. I hope for a patient who maintains open communication with me, feels comfortable sharing anything that troubles them, and knows they will never be judged.

If your loved one's substance use has become unmanageable, you’ve tried everything but refuse to give up, and are desperately seeking hope- I know how you feel. I was raised in a large, chaotic household, and my own adult child has struggled with alcohol addiction and anxiety. Refusing to give up on my son, I found a way out for my family.

If you're feeling off balance - challenged by life's transitions, significant loss, difficult emotions, feelings of confusion, or relationship problems - therapy can help. My view towards therapy is “there is more right with you, than wrong with you." This was said by Jon Kabat Zinn, an early champion of mindfulness in the U.S., and it points to our inherent strengths. I believe we all have the capacity to live with a sense of peace and calm within ourselves and with others. I also believe it’s hard to make changes alone. We can’t think our way out of problems but most of us spend a lot of time trying.

I enjoy working with people who are experiencing life transitions, changing careers, going through grief or loss, experiencing anxiety, looking for support with trauma, developing coping skills, or just seeking support with the messiness of life. I want to work with clients who are motivated to engage in self-reflection and make a commitment to creating space for themselves to work through their current patterns that are no longer serving them. I meet the person where they are at and understand what ways they would like to make changes in their life.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
