Does your child need help? Is your teen struggling? Are you struggling? Being a kid, teen, young adult, or parent is hard- especially in this day and age. Life can be stressful and full of challenges- some harder than others. You don't need to do it alone and I am here to help. I can help by normalizing and guiding the feelings brought up by living in a fast paced, outcome, and image based world. We can work to determine the underlying causes of your symptoms and discover a way forward.

Our broad goal––of course––is “the end of unnecessary suffering.” Sound about right? While we all strive for this, I specialize in helping folks with a very-unique kind of suffering: OCD. I can tell you that few people understand the pain and complexity of OCD—(even most therapists). I will listen intently to your unique story. Just know that I can introduce you to an arsenal of tools that can help: mindfulness, ERP (exposure and response prevention) and on and on. Yes, thoughts can be “sticky.” But––with hard work––if (or when) those thoughts come back around…they can be as quiet & as harmless as a yellow post-it.

I’m willing and able to do just that. Together, we can do this: I use a range of solution-focused approaches: treatments that work (CBT, DBT, and whatever else works). We’ll figure out exactly how you’ve “gotten here,” plan a way out, and I’ll guide you along the way…as we activate your strengths and your inner resources to live a better life. I work with adults, teens, and families and I’m available immediately to give you the help you need and deserve. It

Hello. I offer 25 years experience working collaboratively with people struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues and addiction problems (please have at least 30 days clean and involved in recovery.) Therapy provided is tailored to client needs. Some clients benefit from structure, whereas others benefit more from a safe, supportive place to process problems with a therapist trained as an effective, reflective, listener. I prefer working with older teens and adults. Specialized training in trauma and PTSD.

Life can be challenging and difficult for anyone and for all ages. It can bring changes and stressors to all of us. So many times, my clients will focus on what is going wrong with their lives, which can cause them to feel self-defeated. We all have the capacity to make things better, to be stronger, and to be supportive and appreciative of everyone close to us. The model of therapy I use gives my clients the skills to look at their lives differently and finally break out of dysfunctional cycles to achieve an individual state of peace.

Please reach out via email if interested in scheduling an initial assessment/session. I hold the foundational view that all of our stories occur within the context of the family, cultural, and social systems in which we live. Therefore, the pressure and supports that each of these systems provide are integral parts of both how we experience challenges and how we heal them. In each session, I utilize a strengths-based approach as well as my training in Family Systems Therapy to contour the work in order to find greater balance in client’s lives.

We use 10 acres of land on a farm we revived to give hope toward the pursuit of happiness and wholeness. Growth does not happen in an office; it happens while gardening, trimming hooves, picking eggs, shearing sheep, and chopping wood. We use the land to help you stretch your eyes. Maybe your search is around coping skills or developing interior athletics or just getting active again. Whatever it may be, we will support and guide you in finding wellness. We are prepared to confidentially, professionally, and in an nontraditional manner take some steps in addressing your mental health difficulties. Come join us on this journey.

Education and Learning Disabilities Therapists

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?

When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.

When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?

It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.

What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?

Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.

Are there medications for learning disabilities?

Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
