Important Update for 2024: I am shifting my practice to focus on short-term treatment utilizing a combination of EMDR, IFS, somatic/ mindfulness work, and KAP.
Over the course of my career as a clinical social worker, I have focused my work on providing LGBTQI-affirming psychotherapy to individuals who have experienced trauma, in its many interpersonal and systemic forms. As a white queer nonbinary femme therapist, I continue to educate myself on the privileges and power dynamics inherent in my own social position in relation to my clients, and I openly work from an anti-oppression framework.

We will use a combination of approaches, including IFS, expressive arts, CBT, and mindfulness to help you better understand your ADHD, feel less overwhelmed, and create a life that allows you to be your full self.
Do you have moments of brilliance but feel like you can never quite get it together? You work so hard to stay organized, but always feel like you’re drowning. You’ve got so many unanswered emails that you’ve stopped checking your inbox, and you can’t remember the last time that your to-do list didn’t fill you with dread and guilt. You know that ADHD plays a role in this, but you can’t slow down long enough to figure out how. For years, you’ve been thinking about getting support, but something always gets in the way. You wonder if working with the right therapist would help you get rid of this sense of never being enough.

I may blend talk therapy with energy and body-based therapies: Mindfulness, yoga therapy, EFT, EMDR, chakra therapy, Energy Codes, Arcturian healing.
I believe that the answers to people's problems lie within, and that I serve as a guide to facilitate the release of blocks and the emerging of one's wholeness. My approach is psycho-spiritual, collaborative, strengths-based, holistic, with a social justice lens; that is, I see you as a whole person, and believe in the interconnectedness of body, mind and spirit. I am interested in supporting you in healing wounds, coming home to your true self, detaching from old story lines and false identities. My intention is to create a safe, supportive atmosphere where acceptance and compassion play a role in the growth and healing process.

Our work together will take aspects from a variety of theoretical orientations including CBT, ACT, Mindfulness, and Supportive Therapy to best support your needs.
I firmly believe that change begins with you. Whatever the thing or event was that led you to seek out therapy, I want to first commend you for taking the first step. There are a variety of reasons someone might decide it's time to talk to a professional, including just wanting to have someone to talk to, and no reason is more valid than the other. Whether you are wanting to explore your past, learn effective communication skills, better manage your anxiety and/or depression, or if you're wanting to learn how to stay focused and complete tasks in a timely manner, I can help you with that.

I bring a warm and interactive style to my psychotherapeutic practice, which can best be described as "eclectic," as I believe that not one type of therapy is right for everyone. Pulling from psychodynamic (insight-oriented) psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness/meditation, and somatics (the integration of body/mind/spirit), I will tailor my practice to your individual needs depending on the particular issues you would like to address in therapy.

I use exposure response prevention (ERP), in combination with mindfulness, to help people gain access to valued ways of living.
There is not a singular source to our suffering. Turmoil can originate in, and travel through, our bodies, minds, communities, families, and sociopolitical systems. Often, we respond to inner turmoil in two extreme ways. We may excessively worry, attempt to control, develop repetitive, troubling thoughts, or just obsess about our lives. Or we may do the opposite; avoid, isolate, refuse contact with situations we perceive to be dangerous or distressing, or say 'it is hopeless,' and check out. Therapy can help us gain access to our grief and pain while developing the wisdom that comes with renewed commitment to our lives.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
