My experience encompasses treating people with anxiety, depression, addictions (including dual diagnosis), bipolar disorder, PTSD, low self-esteem, co-dependency, somatic issues, gender identity and LGBT issues.
Worry, Anxiety, Trauma, Depression, Grief, Overwhelming Feelings, Relationship Disasters... these are but a few of the issues that may lead someone to consider a professional who can support and assist you with your core concerns. I specialize in treating the human condition from a holistic perspective, always honoring the uniqueness of each individual and respecting their way of "being" in the world. Our aim together will be to explore and find revelations, resolutions, and solutions. Using a psychoanalytic approach, we will bring to light the driving forces behind the repetitive behaviors that tend to keep us attached to repeated outcomes.

Areas of Specialization: * Depression * Anxiety * Transgender/Gender Identity Issues * Academic/Family/Job Stress * Career Development * Life Transitions(chosen and unexpected) * Queer/Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Identity * PTSD/Trauma Recovery * Addictions * Communication and Assertiveness Training * Spiritual Concerns * Relationship Problems.
I bring a warm and interactive style to my psychotherapeutic practice, which can best be described as "eclectic," as I believe that not one type of therapy is right for everyone. Pulling from psychodynamic (insight-oriented) psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness/meditation, and somatics (the integration of body/mind/spirit), I will tailor my practice to your individual needs depending on the particular issues you would like to address in therapy.

I pull from feminist and queer theories to inform a more expansive view of intimate relationship.
I’m Sam, and I’m a relationship therapist. I believe healthy relationships are an essential pathway to individual and collective healing. In our work together, we will identify some of your core relationship patterns and find their origins, often stemming from your childhood. I’ll help you become more aware of your individual thoughts, feelings, and underlying motives in your relationship so that you can learn to understand and take responsibility for the impacts of your behaviors on each other. Ultimately, I hope to help you find ways to care for each other that feel nourishing, consensual, and interdependent.

Over the course of my career as a clinical social worker, I have focused my work on providing LGBTQI-affirming psychotherapy to individuals who have experienced trauma, in its many interpersonal and systemic forms. As a white queer nonbinary femme therapist, I continue to educate myself on the privileges and power dynamics inherent in my own social position in relation to my clients, and I openly work from an anti-oppression framework.

I help clients with anxiety, relationship issues, self esteem, sex & more with neurodivergent & queer affirming care.
Do you wish life would slow down so you can take a breath? Stuff has been piling up and now your relationships are strained, your social life isn't what you want, and you don’t even really know who you are. However things got to this point, you know you want life to be different and don't want to wait anymore. Many of my clients are hesitant to start therapy or have had trouble connecting with other therapists. I get it! Let's be real, vulnerability is scary as hell. Together we’ll discover or reconnect with your truest self, cultivate healthy habits, identify unhelpful patterns & gain tools to go through the changes of life.

The hardest step to take can be simply acknowledging when things have become a bit overwhelming or difficult to manage on your own. Many people benefit tremendously from psychotherapeutic treatment. If you or someone you know is having problems with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, work-life balance, grief/loss of a loved one, religious or spiritual concerns, LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC, feeling disconnected, & Life stressors. You may find therapy helpful. My goal is to form a collaborative relationship with you that focuses on your needs, and restores meaningfulness and purpose back into your life.

I provide identity-affirming therapy to adults with intersecting marginalized identities, including (but not limited to!) folks who are queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, kinky, non-monogamous, as well as other marginalized identities. I also enjoy working with those who previously had poor experiences with therapy, first time therapy clients, and those who feel “different.” Cultivating deep appreciation of the ways you have survived, tending to the nervous system for ongoing healing, and with humor as needed, we will construct a narrative that feels affirming and true to you.

I am also committed to providing a culturally competent and supportive space for clients of color and LGBTQIA clients.
No Openings at this time. I am dedicated to helping others find their own path to personal fulfillment. I believe each of us can expand on the ways we deal with stress and relationships. I'm committed to creating a warm, interactive and compassionate therapeutic environment and have experience treating issues of anxiety, depression, parenting, relational stress, life transitions and trauma. Post pandemic life has created so many new sources of pressure and hardship, while often weakening our supports and connections. I believe therapy is a comforting and effective way to focus on our self care and well being.

Hi, I’m Emma. I'm a smart, honest, queer therapist who is here to help you connect the dots and solve the problems related to the questions which plague us all: 'who am I,' and 'what am I doing with my life.' I’ve been there, I’ve navigated the challenges and made the changes, to lead me to a life that’s true to my values and ideals. Let's do that for you too. You can look to me for guidance in discovering what motivates you, what will help you grow, what invisible scripts and stories have been holding you back. All of this will lead you an identity that feels most true.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
