My approach to treatment is centered on creating a safe and collaborative environment for those who are seeking help. I believe in the concept that there is a continuum of health, and while at one level a behavior, thought or feeling can feel healthy, at another level this same thought, feeling or behavior can be experienced as problematic. Part of our work together may be determining what is feeling problematic to you, and how we can use your strengths to shift your experiences so that they are more in line with the life you would like to be living.

I love working with and helping people to live happier lives. In my years of experience working in the counseling field, I have assisted many people who struggle to function in their daily lives either because of a new hurdle or a life-long, mental health condition. Sometimes a person may feel hopeless, stuck, or unable to identify what holds them back. Other times, the client is in a new area of life that is unfamiliar or seems too intimidating to navigate. I strive to offer a compassionate, introspective, and collaborative setting where clients can feel free to explore the barriers that keep them from living their best lives.

Different life stages and transitions come with their own unique challenges. Change is a part of life and how we react and meet these changes has a direct impact on our overall well being. Past experiences also influence our reactions. These challenges may make us feel overwhelmed or as if we may be “stuck". Sometimes assistance is needed in helping identify these feelings and stressors so that steps towards healthy responses and reactions can occur. My goal for providing counseling is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where clients can look at both short term and long standing issues and address how to best manage them.

Change is part of life, but you don't understand why it feels this hard. You are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and listening to those negative thoughts playing in your head. You can’t stop judging yourself or figure out how to do things differently. Possibly life took a turn, such as death, divorce, illness, or trauma. Or a transition is ahead such as pregnancy, marriage, or an empty nest, a time that you think you should feel happy. Though, you have mixed feelings, which brings you back to that self-judging cycle.

You're not lazy. Motivation doesn't exist in a vacuum. For you to make a change, you have to be convinced it's worth your effort; you need to know that changing will help. A lot of problems that bring folks to therapy (drinking/smoking too much, doom scrolling, binge-eating, isolating, "lack of motivation") are strategic ways of avoiding a larger problem. We start doing these things to help or cope in the short-term, and sometimes it's at the cost of our long-term well-being. Counseling can help you find your balance.
