I believe therapy is a joint venture. It takes both of us to create expertise about your unique psychology and spirit, and explore how that self-knowledge calls you. I am typically very active with you, suggesting interventions, offering ideas, giving "homework" between sessions. I'm experienced with depression, anxiety, trauma, post-trauma, sexuality, loss, and the search for meaning in life. These days, I see myself not only as a psychotherapist, but also as a teacher in Eastern Philosophies, especially the Tao. I weave these philosophies into the therapy to a greater or lesser extent, depending upon your wishes, and our agreement

Hello, welcome to my practice. In our time together, my goal is for you to experience yourself as a unique individual along with understanding that there is nothing uniquely wrong with you. People are often judged for having problems. if you use insurance to pay for sessions, therapists are required to give you a diagnosis, indicating what is wrong and what needs to be fixed. This is not the way I look at people. There is no one who is free from suffering, which is not even the problem. Instead our "struggles" stem from a lack of compassion towards ourselves.

Therapy should be about you. I will start where you are at today and together we will map out a direction to get you to where you are happier, more fulfilled, and coping well. Depression and anxiety can make you feel like you'll never be happy again but together we can prove it wrong! Change takes courage and together we can help you to find the hope and belief in yourself that you can change and that you deserve to be happy.

Are you missing the connection you once had with your partner? Would you like to inject more spontaneity into your relationship? Do you want to sharpen communication skills when dealing with teens and preteens? Learned behaviors, old patterns, and habits can pose detours on the road to communication.

Life is difficult and people are often confused about how to manage the emotions and circumstances brought on by those difficulties. I work with families and individuals to resolve issues that prevent them from living a peaceful life. My approach is accepting, eclectic, practical, collaborative, active and mindful. If you are a parent struggling with how to manage your child's behaviors, a couple experiencing a fractured relationship, a teen or individual trying to come to terms with identity or a family dealing with adversity, I practice evidenced based skills that could improve your circumstances and your well being.

I recently decided to let go of my office and offer virtual sessions. My practice is limited to women. Although I specialize in the treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of childhood abuse (physical, sexual, emotional), I have a few openings for women struggling with other issues such as depression, anxiety, and life stressors. I am getting ready to start an online survivor group and self-esteem group. Groups have been by far the most lifechanging mode of therapy in my 30 years of experience.

My therapy approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational theories. I also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and other therapeutic approaches to meet my clients’ unique needs. I believe in each person’s potential for healing and empowerment, informing my approach to building a supportive and open therapeutic relationship. Self-understanding and healing can be facilitated by exploring the varied forces that shape us, including familial, cultural, societal, and historical experiences.

I practice from a relational psychodynamic orientation and integrate aspects of cognitive behavioral and narrative psychotherapy in my approach. This means that our work together will consist of identifying the patterns in how you relate to other people and to yourself and working to change those patterns, allowing for more fulfilling interpersonal relationships and a discarding of unhelpful ways of being. I am committed to understanding the dynamics of power and oppression and the ways I can help to undermine and process them in the context of our work.
