Hello, I'm so glad you are here! Life is so complex and challenging at times, and can often leave us at a loss of how to navigate through those challenges. It can often feel like a lonely road to walk through. Therapy can be a great place to pause, rest, and explore next steps in moving forward towards a more fulfilling and aligned life. Taking a new step takes courage and you don't have to do it alone. Creating a safe space together to process and explore life is central to my counseling approach.

You’re good at so many things, but you struggle in relationships, with confidence in who you are, or managing grief. Therapy will help you tap into your natural ability for deep connection, inner strength, and healing. Perhaps in Relationships- you struggle with communication, boundaries, or you keep getting stuck in the same patterns? In Identity- you know your worth, but have trouble with your self-esteem? In Grief- you get overwhelmed, and don’t know where to start to feel better? You're ready to master relationships, heal, and be unapologetically yourself.

Steps to feeling better includes engaging in a process of self-discovery, learning and growing. Negative patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving are changeable. Some patterns are counter intuitive to living a healthy and happy life. I enjoy guiding clients in their own journey of self-discovery, via identifying barriers and opportunities in reaching personal goals. The therapeutic process is not always a linear path, there are twists and turns. However, there are evidenced-based strategies that can help you. My goal is to present them to you, show you how to use them until one or several provide meaningful results.

As your therapist, I believe in getting to know you and working together as a team through this process. I'm client-centered, and utilize a realistic, cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach although my counseling style is dependent upon your individual needs. To me, establishing a trusting, empathic, judgment free environment is the key to building a relationship that will support and empower people to achieve their best selves. We will spend the first couple of sessions working on getting to know your needs and together, coming up with topics and goals to focus on.

I work with adults, older adolescents, and couples. Are you nervous to try therapy? Are you eager to start? I have a friendly approach which makes it easier than you may think to dive in. My style is warm and compassionate while also frank. It is very important to me that therapy feels supportive and provides results. When you are immersed in life's problems or relationship issues, it can be the most difficult time to figure out what to change. I can help you to take small and simple steps that will make immediate changes for the better. Let me help you discover or re-discover your strengths.

Life feels like it's spinning uncontrollably; where every task is overwhelming. Even if you're able to go to work and be productive, this feeling inside doesn't stop. The thoughts keep coming, you get stomach aches, head aches, you have trouble sleeping. You've tried everything. Drinking too much or abusing other substances becomes a coping method. There's no way things can change. Often, adults and teens feel this way and it can be scary and frustrating. If your a parent, it can be agonizing to watch your teen go through this. Feeling helpless and alone. I so often hear, "I know I need something different, but what?"

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
