I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor located in Dorchester, Massachusetts. I have worked in substance abuse for 8 years by helping men and women fight their addictions. As someone who has personally witnessed the struggles of battling drug addiction, I have come to understand that “the change is in the thinking...not the doing.” This means that any changes we want to make must begin with the way we think about things. Our thoughts impact our actions. Thoughts may be deeply impacted by past traumas, anxiety, the environment in which you were raised, depression, or relationships, and may prevent us from being our best selves.

Are you experiencing problems with drugs or alcohol? Do you find yourself caught up in a cycle of other addictive behaviors such as gaming, the Internet or gambling? I have good news and bad news for you. First the bad news: it takes effort to stop addictive behaviors, and to address the underlying emotional or trauma issues that compel you to relapse over and over again. There’s no magic wand, no Abracadabra. Now the good news. The cycle doesn’t have to be endless, and recovery is possible! I do individual, couples and family counseling.

My ideal client is someone who likes to be challenged as well as encouraged, for both are essential to growth and healing. I believe all clients have a level of resiliency that they bring to the table. My job as your therapist is to foster that resiliency. I will support you in gaining the skills needed to acknowledge, process, and resolve whatever issues for which you are seeking support.

I am a licensed addictions therapist with a background in social work, and I work with individuals motivated to maintain their recovery journey and learn more about themselves along the way. I have a diverse background due to my experiences across the gambit of settings from inpatient detox and residential centers, community based programming, state prisons, and outpatient clinics. As such, I work with adults to process trauma and daily stressors that may be impacting their ability to become the version of themselves they wish to achieve.

Providing individual psychotherapy for clients in need. Also offering supervision for LCSWs who are working toward independent licensure. As human beings, we each deserve a virtuous, healthy quality of life. While the days, weeks, and months pass by it can be easy to lose touch with ourselves; our own individual needs.

Not accepting new clients at this time. I am an experienced clinician who specializes in working with people who have been affected by a loved one's substance use. If you have tried everything to help your loved one and feel hopeless, frustrated, burnt out, fearful, helpless, are tired of advice by those who don’t seem to understand, and may not have benefited from self-help meetings, I am here to help. I also am a family member who has been impacted by addiction and I have both personal and professional expertise to assist you in seeing these challenging issues in a new light.

As humans, we can often feel stuck, whether it’s in our thoughts, habits, relationships, or life altogether. We end up spending more time in our own heads and less time being truly present in the things that matter to us most. I view therapy as a space where we can work together to openly explore what's keeping you stuck and make meaningful changes to help you get unstuck. My goal is to ultimately help you feel more present and connected so you can live the life you want.

Humans have the ability to enjoy life, be happy and overcome challenging situations. Sometimes we get stuck in the process of discovering our sources of pleasure, fun and relaxation, and when that happens, we suffer; in those moments it seems like the pain will never end. However, we have strengths that are yet to be discovered. I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 10 years of experience. I am bilingual, in English and Spanish. My mission is to help you find the strengths to support growth, empowerment and healing, mentally and physically.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
