I see therapy as a safe relationship between client/therapist and a path to self-awareness, love, and acceptance.
Accepting new clients for summer 2024. I am a licensed counselor who provides therapy to individuals, couples, and families. I have over 25 years experience with a range of issues concerning relationships, anxiety, life transitions, dating, stress, infidelity, betrayal trauma, sexuality, school admissions, LGBTQ issues, co-dependency, divorce, elder issues, work, and education. I provide a safe place to share concerns, develop coping strategies, and to discover inner resources that we may not have known were there. The "Goodness of Fit" between client and therapist, and the treatment modality is important to initiate results.

Good therapy is like a strong relationship; it requires dedication, builds tolerance for vulnerability, supports growth, and manages trust through respectful and consistent boundaries.
Hello. If you're here, you're at a crossroads in your life. Entering therapy is an act of courage, commitment, and curiosity. Asking questions such as, why is therapy important to me now?, what do I want from this process?, am I ready to grow?, can provide you with a direction toward change. Please note that therapy can be hard at times. Looking at past experiences, addressing buried emotions, and altering old patterns of seeing oneself and others is not easy. However, the outcome of this hard work is life changing.

I specialize in working with couples who are experiencing difficulties. No partnership is without disappointments, confusion, and an experience of minor or major betrayals. Yet these predictable challenges invite us to broaden our capacity for understanding and enter new depths of intimacy as we repair and heal. As a marriage and family therapist with a focus on sexuality I believe that no matter what the difficulty, we can reshape our relationships to have the kind of deep connections we yearn for. I help couples strengthen relationship skills and develop tools to end negative patterns and establish deep intimacy.

The focus of my nearly 30 years in practice is to assist people who find themselves in common yet challenging transitions in their lives. These difficult "phase of life" transitions are often accompanied by painful adjustment experiences including relationship issues, confusion with one's role, interests, or even personal or work identity, difficulty making decisions or taking action, challenges with feeling productive and making a contribution, and finding peace in one's overall experience of life.

My approach enables the client and therapist to establish a hope based, healing relationship.
With over 20 years of experience in the field of helping others, I have learned that making a genuine connection with people is the best way in which to begin the work of therapy. One of the most important skills I have to offer is to carefully and compassionately listen to what you have to say. We then go from there; when you are ready, we begin to look at how to change.

If you yearn for a more fulfilling relationship, greater self-esteem, healing from the past, or a more enjoyable and purposeful life, it means you’re paying attention. There’s always room for growth. Perhaps you aspire to improve one aspect of your life or several areas. Maybe you feel discouraged and lost because you’ve worked hard to make things better and haven’t seen a difference, or you’re newly aware of the need for a shift in life and this is your first try; either is okay. Successful change doesn’t have to start with self-confidence or a plan. It just requires the willingness to reach out and not take the journey alone.

I value the client-therapist connection above all else, and believe that meaningful therapeutic work can be accomplished only in the context of a safe and secure relationship.
I am a clinical psychologist who works with adolescents and young adults struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, self-harm, trauma, and interpersonal difficulties. In addition to working as a therapist, I hold faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, where I previously worked as a staff psychologist and continue to serve as a supervisor. My experience in these roles enables me to work effectively with individuals whose distress is particularly overwhelming and incapacitating.

I treat adults--young and old--struggling with relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, grief, addictions, career confusion, and other life challenges.
About forty years ago while attending Smith College graduate program, I learned that psychotherapy is the study of "the vicissitudes of love." Over my long career of counseling individuals and couples, both as a clinical director of a large outpatient mental health center, and for these past decades in private practice, the ups and downs of life and love have been my focus. With warmth, compassion and humor, I help people find their answers, learn coping skills, and have difficult conversations--internally and externally.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
