Hello and welcome. It is never easy making the choice to begin therapy. Confiding in someone you don't know takes a lot of courage. With so many professionals out there, it can feel daunting and overwhelming to try and find the right person. A person you feel comfortable with, a place where you feel respected, a space of trust and safety. When I meet with a new client, my priority is to make sure you feel safe, respected, and heard. By working together, you will realize you are not alone.

I am skilled at treating clients with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety problems, couples issues, sexual issues, substance abuse and relationship issues. My clients tend to find it very easy to open up to me and build rapport. I see therapy as a collaboration between myself and the client. It is important we both work together to help resolve your issues.

I incorporate a broad range of perspectives and clinical principles in an overall integrative approach to psychotherapy. At the foundation of my work is an appreciation of each individual's capacity to heal and grow and a respect for each individual's path. My desire is to assist people in living an authentic, self-aware, and satisfying life. In my couples work, I strive to assist each partner in deepening their own self-understanding and compassionately holding the experience of their partner, as the couple works together to better understand and best tend or heal their relationship.

I work with adults, from college-age to elderly. My practice appeals to people who who not only suffer from symptoms that impede their daily happiness, but those who long to grow in their understanding of themselves and others. I aid in this process by focusing closely on the unique talents each person brings into the room. I look not for what is wrong but what is right and simply ask that they bring an honest willingness to participate in a partnership for change.

My ideal client would be someone who has not had much success with counseling in the past but is very motivated to participate. I would love to work with a client who has struggled with depression, anxiety, some substance use, and has a history of trauma. I would work to help this client recognize how these issues are connected and perpetuate a cycle. I would also want to help them interrupt that cycle and set boundaries with themselves and in interpersonal relationships. I would work with this client to find healthy hobbies and coping skills while also challenging them.

The ideal client is open to receiving advice and implementing it into their daily lives. The client may have issues with substance abuse due to a lack of healthy coping skills. The client's needs are to improve the quality of work-life balance. It is also important for clients to learn healthy coping strategies to cope with anxiety, depression, and other underlying mental health disorders that are often the underlying cause of substance abuse.

My ideal client is often a little uncomfortable internally, manifested as anxiety or depression. Often, clients I work best with have a complex childhood that can filter into current relationships. My clients often love objective data (like I do) and will measure key components of their care to understand if they are improving over time.

These include techniques that help you understand the different parts of yourself (Internal Family Systems), ways to be more present and expressive in the moment ( Gestalt), and tools to change unhelpful thought patterns (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
Are you thinking about making a change in your life? My approach to therapy is active, supportive, and designed to help you feel empowered to make changes happen. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel safe to explore new ways of thinking and feeling, and help you overcome barriers that prevent you from working towards the person you aspire to be. My clients would describe me as calm, understanding, and truthful. My goal is to create a safe and trusting environment where we can be open with each other. This way, we can give each other clear, constructive feedback to help you make progress.

I provide clients with a safe, supportive & respectful therapy/coaching experience. I’m there to listen. They can share “stories, past, present, life stresses/transition, mental health issues, family/couples goals” etc. I build upon clients strengths as we work together to achieve their goals. As a therapist & life coach I strive to provide my clients with a positive experience. Treatment concludes with them feeling better about themselves & having met "their goals”. The passion I felt when chose this field, early on in high school, still remains:). Through challenging times I’m grateful to be here, to help those in need.

You've sought me out for counseling because you experience a significant discrepancy in your life between how you feel and how you'd like to feel. You're seeking to have positive mental health, that is, to know yourself, to be yourself, to expand your capacity to care for yourself and others and your world, to maintain humility, and to maintain hope. You're aware of the fluctuating nature of your functionality: at times you function well, and at other times you don't function as well as you'd like to. You're aware that, at times, you have experienced distress, that is, difficult life moments. You're ready to create a better life.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
