I especially enjoy working with anxiety disorders which include but is not limited to: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Specific Phobias, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I have been practicing therapy for over 20 years working with children, families, and adults with a range of mental health concerns. I believe that attaining goals are achieved in a therapeutic relationship where the client feels empowered to make changes. I am rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy and family systems therapy. When working with children, parents are an integral part of the therapy process. I provide tools to manage symptoms; many clients state that they feel the benefit of therapy within the first few sessions.

I support people of all ages with personal or relationship challenges, mood/anxiety disorders, neuro-developmental differences (ADHD/Autism) and provide educational counseling and advocacy.
Some people struggle for weeks, months, or even years before considering psychotherapy. And it makes sense — it's hard to confide in a stranger and can take a while to find the right fit. We want authenticity and experience in a therapist but also someone relatable and easy to talk with. When couples counseling, family therapy, or child/adolescent support is needed, the search may seem even more daunting. We need a clinician with the interpersonal skills, temperament, and adaptability to forge a meaningful connection with our partners, children, and the networks who support them.

My ideal client has either experienced a past trauma and/or is dealing with anxiety or depression. This client can be someone diagnosed with ASD, as I enjoy working with neurodiverse populations. This client should want guidance and support to develop emotional regulation skills, build positive relationships with others, or process their emotional experiences. I can help support those going through various life transitions, as well as help people develop self-awareness and understanding.

My ideal client would seek therapy for their issues with processing trauma and acknowledging poor coping skills (such as addictions or low participation in life) used in the past to manage symptoms. They would want to use a cognitive behavioral approach to identify their cognitive distortions and negative thinking patterns and bring awareness and change to their behaviors.

Many young people who come to meet with me are apprehensive about therapy. They might worry that I will be silent, expecting them to fill the space with what's difficult to express. Alternatively, they might have encountered therapists who speak more than listen, resulting in a session that feels like a class. Therapy is an investment of time and resources. If you're willing to open yourself up to me, I can promise you that you will be heard, and I will engage authentically. My job is to help you grow to weather emotional storms and build the life you want.

As a former conference planner with a bachelor's degree in both biology and German studies, I believe that the direct path is not always the most transformational. I've worked as a high school counselor and as community outreach therapist, conducting sessions in elementary, middle, and high schools in the Greater Lowell area. While I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients, I've worked most frequently with children, adolescents, and young adults, as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

For all of us, there are moments when life becomes extremely challenging. I believe that even during times of intense pain, loss, confusion, chaos, and fear, we can find peace and even joy. I teach skills to nurture happiness, hope, inspiration, courage, confidence, creativity, wonder, serenity, balance, and ease. While working alongside individuals to increase resilience, adaptability and flexibility, I assist in identifying and releasing habitual behavioral patterns that perpetuate anxiety, stress, and suffering.

MY PRACTICE IS CURRENTLY FULL. I work primarily with children and adolescents who face a range of challenges. Among these might be anxiety, negotiating peer relationships, learning disabilities, ADHD, and/or losses (e.g. divorce, illness/death of a loved one). During the assessment process, I believe in learning the strengths of the child, parent(s), and other support networks (e.g extended family, school, religious community). From there, I collaborate with the parents and child/adolescent to create a plan for them to develop the skills necessary to address their current challenges.

I identify as a neurodiverse (ND) autistic psychologist. Like many, I discovered at midlife I’m on the “invisible” end of the spectrum. I now specialize in assisting other ND/autistic adults & their allies as they a) explore identity/diagnosis, b) cope with ongoing life adjustments/ND burnout & c) make informed choices about how/when it is safe to “unmask.” I help clients: identify personal life/career-related challenges, build upon strengths, & make constructive changes to create a ‘right-sized’ life. I’m a multicultural-educated ally & offer affirming space for marginalized folx (BIPOC, LGBTQAI+, ENM/polyamory, differently-abled).

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
