I received my Masters in Social Work from Boston College in 1995. I specialize in helping clients who present with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, and environmental stressors. I work with clients who are LGBTQ+, straight, or cisgender. I strive to provide a safe environment in which clients can explore problematic areas which inhibit personal growth, work toward creating either change or acceptance regarding feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, and to identify patterns that are no longer useful. I derive deep fulfillment as a therapist, and consider it a privilege to be a trusted participant on one's journey.

Now accepting new clients in Florida and Massachusetts! Megan prioritizes helping clients feel comfortable, safe, and at ease during sessions. Each session is a collaborative process: the client is the expert in their life, and Megan will tailor her approach to suit their boundaries, comfort level, goals, and needs every time they meet. She specializes in anxiety, attachment, trauma but provides support for a wide range of concerns. Many of her clients are new to therapy, and Megan takes pride in destigmatizing therapy- her sessions feel casual, easy, and safe. Therapy doesn't need to feel like a big deal for big changes to occur.

Adolescence and young adulthood are complex seasons to navigate. It can be difficult to manage social, academic, and societal expectations, while also grappling with and discovering who you are and who you want to become. As a counselor and coach, I walk alongside teenagers, college-aged women and young professionals, serving as a guide and a support, as they explore what it means to live an authentic life. Together we work toward developing the skills they need to lean into and embrace a life filled with joy, contentment, and deep meaningful connection.

BEST way to reach me is EMAIL. I believe emotional healing happens in a therapeutic relationship. I offer relation-oriented, emotion-focused psychotherapy to clients who are interested in relieving symptoms, identifying patterns, resolving conflicts, building satisfying relationships, finding fulfillment in life, etc. My work is trauma-informed due to my passion for trauma treatment, especially that of developmental trauma, and an understanding that traumatic experience is existentially inevitable in human life. I also enjoy helping young professionals, first-time parents, and new immigrants navigate challenging life situations.

Despite being smart, hard-working, and loving supporters to their friends & family, many people struggle to care for themselves emotionally in daily life (especially when life gets hard). This may be due to burnout, depression, perfectionism, or loss. I help clients reflect on their life, past and present. We identify thought & behavior patterns that lead to feeling "stuck". Then, we rewrite an inner dialogue that is rooted in self-compassion, leading to healing, freedom, and more enjoyment of life.

My background and primary approach can be described as psychodynamic, and I am interested in spirituality as an important human capacity.
Offering individual therapy sessions in Massachusetts and Vermont. Freud believed that the goal of psychoanalysis is to free a person to love and to work. Similarly, I see therapy as a process of liberation that frees one to love and contribute to the world. The liberation of one person, sparks liberation in the rest of the world too. I believe that each of us has a unique contribution to make in the world. I see therapy as a process of freeing people to love and contribute. By liberating ourselves, we liberate others.

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
