I foster a warm and collaborative therapeutic relationship with my clients, while incorporating CBT, DBT, developmental, and attachment-based theories and skills into sessions.
Oct 17 Update: Currently have openings (M/W/F). I help those struggling with anxiety, trauma, grief, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions. In a fast-paced culture, we often feel pressured to achieve, impress, and perform. It is essential to have a space to slow down and explore challenging aspects of our lives, be it within ourselves, our relationships, academic and professional realms, or past life experiences that continue to have an impact today. Therapy provides a safe environment to identify and work through these challenges and learn skills that can shift our thoughts and behaviors in a healthy direction.

I work with individuals across the lifespan, drawing from an intuitive blend of therapeutic approaches, including attachment-based, inner child work, existential, Jungian, CBT, and holistic approaches.
My clients come to therapy with a desire to better understand themselves, their patterns, and the implicit beliefs they hold about themselves and the world. They are deep thinkers and feelers with a great appreciation for humor as part of the therapeutic process. They are often striving to become (and befriend) the best version of themselves. Together, we balance insights and perspectives with tools that guide transformation and growth.

As a trauma-informed, attachment-based therapist, I’m not interested in fixing you. I am interested in simply getting to know you. That’s it. Of course, we will be working together on YOU. But our relationship will be the center of the work. I ask that you show up each session as yourself, as much as you can that day, and we will take it from there. If showing up as yourself sounds scary, I totally understand. I will always work to show up as myself, too. You can expect me to tell you about my cat, or the coffee place I’ve tried recently, or to talk about whatever book I am reading. My goal is for therapy to be a conversation.

I have been working with adults, couples, and families for over 40 years. In my experience, people not only seek a therapist with expertise, but also a safe environment in which to explore personal and often painful feelings. My approach combines exploring ways people can make immediate changes, as well as learning how earlier life experiences have created impediments to change. I am the author of the book The Attachment Bond: Affectional Ties across the Lifespan.

Therapy provides a space for us to develop a deeper understanding of our internal world, our patterns, and our suffering. Oftentimes, we might find that concepts and emotions left unattended to are keeping us stuck or unsatisfied. Together, we can be curious about your thoughts, feelings, and fantasies and uncover new meaning and ways of coping. I collaborate with patients to work towards a more fulfilling life and a better relationship with the self. I emphasize that you are the expert of your life, and empower you to make the changes you desire.

Many people are stuck. They cannot either make decisions or make decisions that do not help them move forward. This is like a bad Groundhog Day movie. Ineffective decision-making creates stuckness and futility. As founder of Three Worlds, I am dedicated in helping individuals to develop a practice of efficient decision-making. I work collaboratively with individuals in strengthening their ability to form decisions that increase life's happiness.

In working together I will encourage you to find your own "clear voice" by connecting with your values, sorting out conflicts, and developing new skills. Most importantly, our work involves connecting to your own inner strength. My clients describe me as an astute listener who provides them with a warm and grounded place in which to expand understanding and to learn new and practical approaches. Therapeutic work we do together will often result in your improved ability to "unstick" stuck relationships, get unblocked and communicate more effectively, as well as making meaningful decisions that fit for you.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
