Not accepting new clients. My approach is collaborative, respectful, and strengths-based with an emphasis on goodness of fit between client and therapist. I ask new clients to meet once weekly for three consecutive weeks, and then use the fourth session to discuss how best to go forward.

Often, people come to therapy because they are living lives that they never planned on. It becomes clear that difficulties from the past are getting in the way of settling into relationships. I am interested in helping people overcome losses - the loss of time due to depression, the loss of previous versions of oneself due to unresolved feelings, illnesses, or injuries, the loss of relationships that might have succeeded had one been more able to give to or receive from others, and the loss of one's identity due to the demands of work, relationships, or culture. I believe creativity, spontaneity, and humor can contribute to growth.

Effective therapy creates meaningful, lasting, joyful change. As your therapist I can help you resolve the inner and outer conflicts that create pain and exhaustion. Life brings unchosen experiences. Sometimes we feel hurt, scared, or deeply alone. Sometimes what happens seems too big to manage. For 25+ years I have had the privilege of helping people learn to live as their "best self," able to manage their moods, thoughts and situations with compassion and skill, to make changes to reach their goals, and to find happiness. I have also had the honor of helping couples and families move from hurtful interactions to healthy loving relationships.

It takes courage, curiosity, and commitment to engage in therapy. In my practice, I provide a safe, empathic space for people who are open to self-discovery, and motivated to make changes that can increase their sense of well-being and vitality. I work with adults (23 and older) who struggle with anxiety, depression, perinatal mood disorders, relationship issues, low self-esteem, career/academic stress, parenting support, and challenging life transitions. I also work with couples to improve, heal, or redefine their relationships.

There is no "perfect" approach to making change, addressing life challenges, or reducing symptoms. My approach is intentionally eclectic and integrative, allowing for your unique strengths and struggles to guide our work. At the heart of my practice, is a strong appreciation for the importance of developing a safe, trusting, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. I will listen without judgment, offer feedback based on my knowledge and observations, and together, help formulate attainable goals for our work.

UNFORTUNATELY, I DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE OPENINGS FOR NEW CLIENTS (3/15/24). I WILL UPDATE HERE WHEN MY AVAILABILITY CHANGES. I am a clinical psychologist practicing in the heart of Harvard Square, helping graduate students, adults and couples to live their lives more fully and creatively. People describe me as a kind, welcoming, and thoughtful psychologist with a sense of humor and a practical and caring approach to psychotherapy. Over the past 30 years, I have worked privately and at local institutions, including Harvard University, Emerson College, Boston College, Tufts University, and Beth Israel Deaconess.

The premise of psychotherapy is that every crisis presents an opportunity for growth and change. Against this backdrop, psychotherapy is an adventure of insight unique for every person, whether the reason for seeking treatment is a current stressor or the wish to be free from longstanding dysfunctional patterns that interfere with fulfillment in the spheres of love, work and play.

My approach is grounded in a collaborative relationship in which I help people clarify and move towards their goals. I actively work together with clients to help them break free from hurtful patterns, feel more resilient in the face of challenges, and develop a stronger connection with themselves and others. I'm particularly committed to supporting clients in developing greater self-compassion as they find new ways to relate to their emotional pain.

I specialize in CBT to help mitigate symptoms of anxiety around relationships, social situations, self-esteem, work/school issues, chronic health issues, and chronic depression. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that treats problems and boosts happiness by modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts. Unlike traditional talk therapy, which probes patterns and root causes of conflict, CBT focuses on solutions, encouraging patients to challenge distorted cognitions and change destructive patterns of behavior.
