Though I like to draw from these modalities to offer concrete skills and tools, I approach everything from an attachment-based orientation that prioritizes building a safe and trusting relationship with open communication and space to process whatever is coming up in real time in session and in your life.
Hi! I'm Eva Ray Senner, a licensed clinical social worker based in Medford, MA serving clients across Massachusetts via Telehealth. I have experience in a broad range of healthcare settings providing short- and long -term therapy to adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment reactions, life transitions, relationship issues and/or seeking to process unresolved issues in their past. My specialty is perinatal (pregnancy/postpartum) mental health and early parenthood, but I enjoy working with folks of all ages and stages of life. I am passionate about listening to people and uplifting them in their path to healing.

My name is Lisa Holahan, and I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor. I like to take an integrated approach to therapy in that I pull from different theories to help clients enrich their understanding of their own functioning. Empowering clients with knowledge of why they may be utilizing maladaptive coping strategies and introducing them to new ways of coping can help them to make impactful changes in their lives. I utilize psychodynamic, attachment-based and EMDR therapy to inform my approach to helping clients with their problems.

Good afternoon, my name is Dan. I am a LICSW in MA and here to help. I imagine it must be so hard to feel comfortable and I will do what I can to better understand and help you find out what is going on. It is never easy to make the decision to reach out for help, but you made that giant step, you should feel proud of that.

I am Jane Gotshalk, a licensed independent clinical social worker. I started my journey in 1997, knowing then that I wanted to work with children and adolescents. As I've grown older and more experienced with virtual therapy, I have found that younger children are more successful with in person therapy. However, I still am passionate about working with adolescents and college students as well as adults up to age 60.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
