I have enjoyed my private practice for over 50 years - full-time since 1979. Although I consider myself a generalist, I have concentrated working with individuals, couples, families, adult children of alcoholics, substance abuse, codependence, grieving, gay and lesbian, trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence. As a member of the Association of Christian Counselors, I serve Christian clients. I accept most health insurances.

In recent times life can seem overwhelming. I can help you to make your life feel more manageable. I aim to be gentle and caring with my clients. I don't want to push anyone more than they are ready for. I will, however, help you to challenge thought patterns and beliefs that might be holding you back. I am an LICSW offering affirming, nurturing therapy to adults and adolescents. Many of my clients are young women managing relationship issues, work, and/or parenting; and members of the LGBTQIA? community.

My practice stems from a warm, kind, empathetic approach. I practice with a strength based perspective with individual attunement and collaboration, starting where the client is. I work with adolescence, adults and families. My experience in the field is extensive, working at Gosnold with clients in recovery, with families in Crisis at MSPCC, with students as a High School Social Worker, and with adults who are experiencing life challenges. I am very proud of the work I do and am honored to share in the experiences and stories of others.

Welcome. I work primarily with women of all ages, throughout the lifespan, helping them to be their best selves, finding strengths and answers to create the life they desire. My style is interactive and eclectic, meaning my tool box is deep to allow various approaches to meet you where you are. The client sets the pace and timeframe. Sometimes we work together a short time, other times for longer periods. I have many clients who return for short "tune ups" as life challenges arise.

I work with adolescents and adults to help them overcome obstacles in their lives. Abuse and trauma, when untreated, can have a chronic negative, lifelong impact. When that is the case, we work on what is currently bothersome, while processing old trauma and determining any relationship between them. Transitions such as moves, change of schools/jobs, divorce, etc. can cause various amounts of emotional upheaval and it can make all the difference in going through such a transition or processing leftover feelings from one to have a place to talk in a safe setting with an experienced therapist.

Talking about heavy emotions is sometimes hard to do and maybe equally as difficult to open up to a new therapist. I am a licensed clinical social worker earning my MSW from Bridgewater State University. My style is warm and compassionate. I offer the client to set the pace which allows time to share their experiences in a safe, comfortable space. I believe in using a client-centered and strengths based approach to help inform the work we do together. I will work alongside you to develop a realistic treatment plan to help you reach your desired goals and outcomes.

I believe that everyone is in the process of change. We have worked to become whe are now, and we will continue to grow into ourselves. That is why I do not judge people, but instead help clients to accept and appreciate their struggles as a foundation for healing. Very little shocks or surprises me, so I am particularly well-suited to issues of sexuality and personal expression and associated issues of shame and fear. I also have an affinity for those with anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, grief, and couples' issues. My primary method is Cognitive-Behavioral talk therapy.

We can easily feel stuck in life and not sure of the right way to turn. There are ways to remove the roadblocks while increasing your empowerment and self awareness. But where do you start? Finding the right therapist can be difficult. I strive to create a warm and welcoming place where you can feel safe, cared for, and valued, while providing you with strategies to meet your needs. I have been told that I am realistic, down to earth, and that I create an environment where you can feel comfortable opening up.

Accepting new clients in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maine! You deserve to not be "white knuckling it" through life. And it’s okay (wonderful, even!) to ask for help. As a people pleaser, myself, I understand how incredibly difficult it can be to prioritize what you want and need out of life. I work with women of all ages on several different topics. Clients who struggle with low self esteem and self worth, anxiety, depression and trauma: I am here for you. We will work on identifying your needs, setting boundaries, developing a more assertive (not aggressive, nor passive) voice and much more, depending on what will be helpful.

Life is everchanging, and we go through different seasons and transitions, often being asked to access our resilience and coping skills to navigate our path in the moment. Having to face life transitions can sometimes feel anxiety provoking and scary, but also can be transformational and exciting. Starting from where you are, and looking forward, we can craft your next chapter of your life, while challenging thoughts or unproductive coping mechanisms that you’ve become accustomed to and past narratives or stories that might keep you stuck or feeling undeserving of a joyful peaceful life.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
