I specialize in three modalities: cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
My ideal client would be someone who is ready and willing to participate in treatment. I am comfortable with an array of different diagnoses and struggles. Their needs would include working towards tangible goals that we are able to breakdown in the treatment setting. They may want to work on self-esteem, depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms etc. They would want to minimize their symptoms and improve everyday functioning. The goal would ultimately be to no longer need treatment as they have reached their goals.

I use an integrated and holistic approach, combining relational, intersectional, Dialectical Behavioral, somatic, narrative, and other frameworks to tailor each session to meet your needs.
I believe that every human is on a challenging, exciting, complex, and unique journey through life, and that each of us need different types of support to make this adventure the best it can be. As a therapist, it’s my primary joy to walk alongside you on your path to heal wounds, amplify your current strengths, cultivate new ones, strengthen your relationships, set and achieve personal goals, and, importantly, find opportunities to find joy along the way. This can include working to reduce anxiety and depression, navigating family relationships and/or systemic oppression, processing and mitigating the impacts of trauma, etc.

While I am trained in EMDR, DBT, and IFS, and Narrative therapy (which is my predominant style) I am always learning with my clients and bring awareness but not authority into session so that my clients may clarify to me the world as they see it before I attempt to intervene with any assumptions.
I believe that problems develop relationally and therefore it makes sense to solve them relationally: to seek resolution through genuine understanding is the work of therapy. In my experience, the relief that clients seek is contingent upon being seen as they are, and as they want to be seen, and feeling understood.

I've pursued post-graduate studies and fellowships in parent-infant mental health, child therapy, structural racism, trauma, narrative therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, family systems, suicidality and DBT.
For many years I've worked as an outpatient psychotherapist in a medical setting. Clients who see me are often referred for treatment by a doctor or healthcare provider. Many of my clients report feeling down or depressed. I meet clients where they are and this is the beginning of treatment.

I work from narrative therapy but draw from cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy to help us work around the problems in your life.
Accepting New Clients - Fall 2024! My approach is heavily informed by the narrative worldview. I believe in helping people understand the relationship they have with the problems that are blocking them from their preferred ways of living. Sometimes that looks like depression holding them to their beds, or anxiety stealing away your confidence, or shame interfering with your relationships. Other times, these problems can have long histories and contexts within society - the image of the “ideal man or woman,” familial expectations of success and prosperity, or unrealistic timelines of life that people become beholden to.

I'm rooted in relational therapy and incorporate ACT, CBT, narrative therapy, and mindfulness.
I work with adults who are trying to figure how to feel better about themselves and their most important personal and professional relationships. Building resilience, insight and meaningful connections starts with making sense of your values, core beliefs, and your goals for yourself. Because my background includes experience in nonprofit and corporate environments, I’m also attuned to the nuances of work relationships, and how issues like communication breakdowns, lack of confidence, and burnout impact our emotional state and our relationships with ourselves.

I have been practicing as a therapist since 2019. The theoretical approaches beliefs pull from are a blend of Brief, Narrative, Gestalt, Liberation, Decolonization, and Rogerian Therapies and thought. My process is collaborative, I partner with my clients to produce agreed-upon goals and we work together to achieve them. My experience has mostly been in crisis work, and I have worked with all ages from adolescents to adults.

She integrates therapeutic modalities including CBT, CPT, IFS, and Narrative Therapy to provide each client a flexible and supportive treatment plan, with emphasis on trauma-informed care.
Dr. DeOliveira works with adult women and gender-questioning/gender non-conforming folks to explore narratives that have restricted their capacities for thriving. She specializes in trauma recovery, mood stability, coping with anxiety, identity exploration, and reproductive health concerns (i.e., pregnancy, postpartum, fertility issues). She is trained to work with issues of sexuality, gender, and marginalized identity, and she has developed a specialty area in supporting the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities. Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
