Coming from an arts based background as a musician, I always look forward to finding alternative ways of expressing yourself with more than just talk therapy such as through music, nature, arts, and CBT, DBT, Grief Counseling, Motivational Interviewing, inner child work, executive functioning coaching and more.
Hey there, welcome! No matter where you are in your life at this moment, getting the support you need, no matter how small is important. My approach is to meet you where you are at from a human to human experience. You can expect a meaningful and authentic therapeutic relationship between us to demonstrate that we are all deserving of empathy, compassion and support. I bring humor, creativity, out of the box thinking, and a space to find safety. I genuinely want to hear what your story is and help you navigate your own path. I work with ages 11 year and older, adults, couples, families, Life/career/Exec. Func. coaching and Grief.

My ideal client would be someone who has not had much success with counseling in the past but is very motivated to participate. I would love to work with a client who has struggled with depression, anxiety, some substance use, and has a history of trauma. I would work to help this client recognize how these issues are connected and perpetuate a cycle. I would also want to help them interrupt that cycle and set boundaries with themselves and in interpersonal relationships. I would work with this client to find healthy hobbies and coping skills while also challenging them.

I have experience working with and treating all types of addiction, including both substance and behavioral addictions. I also have considerable experience with and understanding of mental illnesses, including especially depressive, anxiety, and bipolar disorders. I tend to have the most success treating those for whom other approaches have not been effective. My approach is best fitted for those who feel utterly broken and desperate for change.

If only I knew then what I know now about the mind-body connection; the integration of breathe, the power of intuition and the transformation that comes with stillness. I know what it feels like to want to crawl out of my own skin, to look in the rear-view mirror and to rush through miscellaneous tasks without real purpose. I am talking about the difference between living and existing. The difference between doing and being. You are not alone —- but you can’t do this by yourself because if you could, you would have by now.

Hey there, I'm Nicole, your friendly introverted therapist and self-proclaimed cozy queen. So, if you're ever in need of some mental warmth, a good laugh, or just someone to talk to about trashy tv, I'm your gal. Let's wrap ourselves in fuzzy socks and dive into your feelings - because nothing says "therapy" quite like a cozy blanket and a fresh cup of coffee in your own home. I've got over a decade of experience diving into the wonderful world of social work. From adoptions to school counseling, I've done it all! During the day I am a Supervisor at an EdTech company, dishing out free telehealth support to students across the US.

Motivational Interviewing Therapists

How does motivational interviewing work?

Motivational interviewing aims to uncover a person’s internal motivation to change their life. Toward this end, the therapist listens, empathizes, and collaborates with the client based on their perspective; the therapist doesn’t adhere to a predetermined plan for change or impose their viewpoint on the client. Discovering an individual’s most important reasons for change, and guiding them to achieve those changes, can empower people to shift from ambivalence to action.

Is motivational interviewing evidence-based?

Yes, research shows that motivational interviewing can help treat alcohol and substance use — and in different ways such as reducing drinking, reducing resistance, and increasing the likelihood of staying in treatment. Motivational interviewing has also been shown to help people lose weight, adhere to medication regimens, improve diet for those with Type II diabetes, and improve healthy behaviors in children.

How long does motivational interviewing last?

Motivational interviewing is a short-term therapy that can last just one or two sessions. In some cases, motivational interviewing may be used in conjunction with longer-term therapies, but for most people, motivational interviewing is a brief intervention that aims to help patients understand their personal, specific, and internal reasons for changing their life.

What differentiates motivational interviewing from person-centered therapy?

In person-centered therapy, the individual is in the driver’s seat of the treatment process, creating space for them to trust their instincts and arrive at their own solutions. The two approaches are similar because motivational interviewing is also client-centered; however, person-centered therapy is more open-ended while motivational interviewing is somewhat more structured; the goal is to change, and the therapist helps the client specifically discover their internal motivations to modify their behavior.
