My theoretical orientation is informed by neuropsychological, existential, feminist, and learning theories.
I view therapy as an active process on the part of the client and the therapist, set within the context of a relationship built on trust, vulnerability, and curiosity. My clients may be seeking to develop greater personal agency and authenticity in their lives. They may want to clarify their values and life direction or better understand and manage their emotional lives, resolve self-defeating behavior patterns, or foster meaningful relationships. I often work with clients who are living their lives in environments which demand consistent excellence in performance and who may, as a result, have distinct needs and challenges.

I draw from a number of approaches to help my clients reach their goals including mindfulness, attachment theory, cognitive behavioral elements, feminist theory, social justice, and a holistic strengths-based perspective.
I specialize in treating trauma and relationship concerns. I support individuals with attachment trauma or painful past experiences that continue to impact their current lives, getting in the way of feeling grounded, connected, and vibrant. I also support couples, relationship partners, and adult family members to engage more effectively, sustainably, and lovingly with each other. I engage with clients as whole people and explore their concerns in the context of identities and experiences that matter to them. With that in mind, I invite them to build awareness and skills that will help them thrive rather than tread water.

I am a therapist because I believe we should be creators of our lives and not consumers of others' expectations. Working collaboratively, you and I will explore where you feel stuck and make moves toward a more fulfilling life. As an artist and a queer feminist, I am a great therapeutic fit for folks who want to build an authentic life amidst the confines of the dominant social order. I love working with adults as they navigate life changes in relationships (broadly defined!), career, and family; and I love working with teens as they navigate school, neurodivergent diagnoses, and identity.

My style is based on the biopsychosocial model of therapy, which is grounded in the idea that mental health does not exist in a vacuum but is impacted by the systems we are a part of. Additionally, my therapeutic style draws from feminist theory, trauma informed therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing. I have experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, victims of sexual violence, as well as individuals struggling with addiction. I am particularly interested in working with individuals that have experienced trauma around sexual violence as well as sexual and gender identity.

I most often use frameworks from psychodynamic, internal family systems, and feminist theory.
I believe that therapy can heal, people can change, and with a safe and supportive environment, things become possible that at one point did not feel possible. We'll work to understand your stories and patterns, explore where you'd like to feel shifts, and create a feeling of abundance of space and time for you to process. I enjoy working with young adults and adults. I have additional expertise with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities.

I am always learning and doing my best to practice from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, feminist, liberation health lens.
Are you questioning or coming to terms with your sexual orientation? Are you bisexual and feel like you don't "fit in" in queer spaces? Would you like to come out to others but feel completely overwhelmed at the thought of doing so? I help young adult women process questions related to their sexual orientation and feel more comfortable in their own skin. I particularly specialize in working with bisexual women, who can find themselves feeling out of place in both queer spaces as well as straight spaces.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
