As a Credentialed Grief Educator and Counselor, Certified Pet Loss and Bereavement therapist and Ordained Pastor, I try to provide guidance to those going through the pain and sorrow of loss. The loss could be lost love, a pet, friend, sibling, job, relationship...Regardless, when any deep bond is severed, the sadness and broken heart are profound. But loss and grief are not mental health issues. And while there are meds for depression, there is no pill for a broken heart. These are spiritual and emotional matters. Things of the heart and soul. The Grief Journey is complex and demanding. Please let me know if I can help

Sometimes you need a bit more support from an outside source to see issues through a new lens. I am here to help you do that. We can start by saying that anxiety, substance use, depression, rumination, and approval seeking, are all normal human challenges. Many of these problems surface in early adulthood which is why I specialize in helping people launch into adulthood with better coping skills.

I utilize several psychotherapy approaches (IFS and ACT) to support developing effective ways to unhook from, and work with, challenging thoughts, feelings, and behaviors (in contrast to fighting or avoiding these challenges). This ability is helpful for both working with present moment experiences and when engaging in deeper healing related to the past. IFS, EMDR and somatic interventions are the primary approaches I use for addressing underlying challenges. When appropriate, I follow a phase oriented trauma treatment model.

I provide Recovery Coaching/Case Mgt on a monthly basis. Whether you're coming back from some form of treatment for your substance use or you've had a relapse from your program, having someone involved with your recovery process is essential for success. It can be very challenging initially in recovery, there are lots of new feelings that you will have to look at that you never really looked at before and this process can stir up some heavy emotions. Having someone with you that has been through it and has assisted many others in the past can be very helpful, especially in the first 90 days.

I believe the greatest gift a therapist can offer is full presence with a compassionate ear. Many clients seek therapy because something that was working for them is no longer working. Maybe you feel stuck, unseen, unheard, anxious, angry, or "enmeshed" in your interpersonal relationships and work. Maybe there's family estrangement or you are contemplating cutoff. Maybe your core values are being tested. You have been here for a long time, but believed you needed permission to feel this way: "Just another year," "just a little more." In our therapy space, even if you take your shoes off at the door, you can bring your whole self.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
