I am a licensed mental health counselor and have experience working with adults with persistent mental illness for over 9 years. Navigating through life challenges on an ongoing basis can leave us feeling overwhelmed and at times experiencing such emotions feel permanent, with small consistent steps one can manage those challenges and achieve their identified "full life." I take a strength-based approach and meet my clients where they are at. I take a collaborative approach in achieving the client's identified goals.

I bring space for my clients through a warm, welcoming, and non-judgemental as well as unconditional lens. Sometimes it can be figuring out your true identity and what drives you to do the things you do, other times it can be day to day issues. My goal in therapy is to provide a safe space to my clients to feel heard and understood. It's hard in everyday life to overcome the challenges that our mind creates, and I hope to help clients work through the issues that comes with being human and living in today's society.

I’m a firm believer that you don’t need to wait until things get really bad to start therapy. If you're a college/graduate student, young adult, or professional experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, or neurodivergence, you're not alone! I approach each therapeutic relationship afresh with curiosity about you and your story, and believe that therapy is a space for sharing the load together as things are processed.

There are times in our life where we reach a point when we realize something may not be manageable anymore or has gotten bigger than we expected but you are here and you are taking the steps to implement change. Coming into a therapy session provides a safe space to explore this and challenge yourself to identify what is going on and how we can work together to accomplish that. We serve clients 16 years old and up.

I believe helping you with the issues you bring to therapy starts with empathy and respect. As partners in this process, we will work together to seek a deeper, compassionate understanding of the issues you are seeking help with. We will work to understand the forces- past and present- that contribute to your struggles. Through this lens I will help you mobilize your strengths and values, cope effectively now, and empower you to change lifestyle patterns that maintain emotional pain. No matter how stuck or hopeless you may feel, it is always possible to make changes and move toward a more fulfilling life.

You: I'm just stuck. I'm never NOT trying. Why is this so difficult? Why am I not getting better? I just don't understand why there's this major disconnect. It's like there are parts of me that are just holding me back.

I look forward to helping you reach your goals. Utilizing counseling to take an active role in managing your mental health is a step towards your improved health. We can make changes in our health with effort, support and making the time for your self in this ever demanding world we live. Investing in yourself is your biggest investment. Sometimes therapy may be a place to sit with feelings and emotions, to gain strategies for anxiety, depression, stress, other behaviors, family/work challenges and conflicts, or you may need time and space to reflect, make decisions, receive professional feedback, guidance, skills and validation.

I believe that relationships determine a lot about how we interact with the world - in both helpful and less helpful ways. Our behaviors, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and relationship styles are reinforced over time by our experiences, families, partners, environments, and culture. Psychotherapy can help when stress, trauma, life transitions, or difficult relationships call for new ways of coping and navigating our lives.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
