Life can be painful. Life can be beautiful. Life can be a million in-between things. I like to meet clients where they are at to collaborate on ways to effectively manage and handle all that life brings.

As a therapist, my goal is to ensure that my client feels heard and understood throughout the therapeutic process. My practice is rooted in empathy and compassion for whatever it is that clients are going through, with an understanding that each individual is able to continue their healing journey. Whether it be anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, relationship issues, etc., I believe in the importance of a non judgemental approach to help explore such concerns with clients.

Sometimes we know we need to make a change and it takes us a while to be ready for it. Sometimes things happen in our lives that require us to get immediate support. Whether it's needing a compassionate ear to listen to us, some new coping strategies to deal with ongoing stressors, or guidance on even where to start, we can all benefit from counseling. I am prepared to guide you through this process and work on your goals, whether long term or immediate.

Each person's needs are assessed to develop an approach which is best suited to the individual. Collaboratively a treatment plan is created, building on strengths. In addition to traditional therapy, a holistic approach is available. Traditional therapy with listening, assessment, support, and presenting an objective view enables positive movement. Integrating many perspectives widens the opportunity for balanced change. Drawing on over twenty years of experience, I counsel adults, adolescents, couples, and provide family therapy.

I enjoy working with people of all ages who are interested in finding meaning in and making peace with their lives. My high school English teacher left two indelible ideas in my head, a quote from Socrates "The unexamined life is not worth living" and the Latin question "Quo Vadis?" or "Where are you going?". Since then, I have not only held this sense of curiosity for my own journey but practiced the profession in which I get to be present with other people as they embrace curiosity for their own lives, face their challenges, losses and changes, heal their wounds, and find their directions.

Not accepting new clients
Currently only meeting with clients via telemedicine. In my practice, I focus on creating a calming space where reflection is welcomed. I believe in the importance of a space where you can fully live in the present moment with your thoughts and feelings. Life can be filled with hardships, challenges, and transitions. Within this space, I make it a goal to support all of my clients in finding their inner needs, wants, and strengths that often become dismissed through the chaos of life. I take a holistic, collaborative, and person centered approach as I fully believe the client is the expert of themselves.

What would it be like to be able to look inside yourself and value what you find there? A positive, healthy connection with yourself gives you the confidence to take effective action in the world and helps you to feel worthy of self-care. Maybe, though, like so many people, you've learned to ignore your feelings and to mistrust yourself, and so it has become hard to believe that the answers you need are actually inside of you. Without a strong sense of trust in your own value and perceptions, it's all too easy to become depressed and anxious.

Welcome! Going through a difficult time or a time in which you’re flooded with more questions than answers is hard but it can also be an invitation to discover strengths and supports you may not know you had. In therapy, you are invited to take care of yourself with more commitment, find what matters most to you, and listen deeply for answers inside of yourself. I am committed to creating a safe and non-judgmental space where you can begin your journey home to yourself.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
