I love working with people who have come to therapy because they really want to change something about their lives that isn't working. Being in therapy takes a certain amount of courage, and those who show up openly to the experience and bravely start working are satisfying to work with. I'm also interested in those who can commit to having a real relationship in therapy. Based on my own personal and clinical experience, the development of a warm, empathic, safe relationship is key to therapeutic success.

Are you struggling with a narcissistic parent, spouse, or boss? You'll learn how to handle this painful relationship in the right way for you.
“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. I’m a psychologist with 30 years’ experience. I help children, teens, and adults tackle anxiety: generalized anxiety (constant worry), panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, and social anxiety. You'll learn how anxiety works, and we'll develop the treatment plan that's right for you or your child, based on CBT, in person exposure therapy for OCD, or parent coaching. Clinical Hypnosis is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety, pain, and managing habits such as smoking/vaping and dealing with difficult issues from the past.

Life is an ongoing process of aligning with our true authentic self. Without that alignment life can feel barren and meaningless. We feel stuck and unable to realize our visions and dreams. Yet, the capacity of the human spirit for creative and intuitive development is truly unlimited. Most of us however, use only a small fraction of that capacity. Through self-reflection and personal exploration we can gain an understanding of what limits this capacity.

Note** I am currently not accepting new patients. I have been a therapist for 20+ years and have worked at MGH for the last 12 as well as having a private practice. I consider myself to be a warm, genuine therapist and have experience treating anxiety, depression, bipolar, trauma, substance abuse and relationship issues. I have worked with individuals throughout the life span but particularly enjoy adults and couples. I come from a psychodynamic perspective and also include cognitive-behavioral as well as solution focused therapies in my treatment. Entering therapy is not always an easy step to make, but it can change your life.

A wise doctor once wrote: "It is more important to understand the person who has a symptom than the symptom a person has." This is even more true for emotional problems than physical ones. Likewise, without understanding the context of a person's life and family, past and present -- one cannot really begin to know the person. I have worked for many years with men and women of all ages: with addictions, family and relationship issues, and the universal challenges of depression and anxiety. Certainly there are commonalities among the problems they present, but it is the uniqueness of each of my clients that leads to change.

To establish a relationship with a therapist takes time and can be rewarding when you are able to build trust, knowing you are able to confide and share your perspective, your story. This process allows the individual the opportunity to gain clarity in a setting that is confidential and accepting. All too often emotional/physical pain can have a significant impact on our ability to remain independent, self-reliant, engaged in everyday tasks and life roles at level of independence that is rewarding to oneself and those they care for. As an Occupational Therapist with a background in behavioral health, I take a holistic approach.

We're the therapists for "kids who don't like therapy." These days - especially - teens are too often suffering and struggling in their homes and in our schools. And everyone could use some help: kids, parents, and the caring professionals in our schools. Throughout the state, our therapists and life coaches serve as "part of the team," helping teens to feel better, and do better. Together, we'll explore and better understand what's been happening, how to change patterns, and how to get better results!

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
