Stress, sadness, anxiety, relationship problems, loss, and challenges at school and work are problems we all face as human beings at one time or another. Yet, life doesn't come with an instruction manual, and finding happiness and well-being often seems difficult if not impossible. However, I believe that by understanding some simple principles about the mind and its functioning allows us to tap into our innate wisdom and common sense, make healthier choices, overcome challenges and experience more peace and contentment. I believe change happens in the present through insight, education and understanding, not by delving into the past.

Are you suffering from anxiety, depression and/or trauma? I believe we all have the innate ability to heal. Our bodies and minds are drawn towards wholeness and health. However, painful experiences can constrict us, blocking these natural processes and obscuring our view of our true nature, like clouds obscuring a clear, spacious sky. Together, we will clear the blockages that have kept you stuck and gotten in the way of realizing your full potential. Let's begin the process of you coming home to yourself.

My mission is to help you feel seen, heard, and truly understood. Growing up in Lebanon, where mental health was rarely discussed, sparked a deep passion for understanding human emotions and resilience. Moving to the U.S. at 17 brought the challenges of navigating between cultures, which shaped a commitment to supporting those who feel unseen or disconnected.

I specialize in depression, anxiety and trauma, and the use of alternative psychotherapy approaches. (However, I do offer traditional approaches). These new psychotherapies are body-centered and mindfulness-based. In other words, we are more than our thoughts - we are our sensations, feelings and that something which is greater than the self, the transpersonal. These new psychotherapies work directly with client's moment to moment awareness of what is felt or sensed within the body. These felt sensed experiences are then processed through cognition which then allow for the opportunity of insight, change and healing.

Stress presents itself to all of us - children and adults - as we navigate our daily lives. At times the stress can overwhelm our ability to cope and thrive. A therapeutic relationship offers you the opportunity to examine your present situation with someone who will not judge and who has been trained to help. The anxiety, depression, confusion or fear that lies underneath the problem can be identified and explored and skills can be learned, practiced and mastered which can change your relationship to the stress.

"Sometimes life leaves us feeling confused, stressed and emotionally low. I have experience working with adults helping them overcome their struggles with anxiety and depression and with issues such as family and parenting stress, school and work difficulties, unhappy relationships, loss of a loved one and trauma. I also work with children, ages 3 -13 who are experiencing difficulties at school and, or at home. I do individual, couples, family and play therapy (with younger children). I believe, given some gentle direction, people can harness their instinctual ability to decrease their own distress and to live a more contented life."

I have an extensive background working with children and families. I believe most conflicts within a relationship comes down to effective communication skills, and an openness to look at one's own needs for self-growth. Our early childhood experiences, most often shape our belief systems, and these beliefs may not be moving us in the direction of our dreams and goals. Fear of failure, fear of judgement, fear of change, is often the cause for dreams unrealized. Those I work with should have a strong desire for change, and be willing to sit with their emotions, practice skills learned in session, and commit to living their best lives

Life has its ups and downs, but do you seem to have more downs these days? Are you fearful or sad, losing sleep, worrying about partner or your child? Are you angry and irritable, then ashamed? Insecure and unhappy on your job? You don’t need to stay in this lonely, confusing place. Therapy is a wonderful opportunity to pause, breathe deeply, and take time to find your voice. As a therapist, I can be there with a listening ear, a calm presence. More than that, I provide a mix of insight, practical advice, candid feedback, warmth, and a sense of humor. Therapy is an inner journey, and I’ll be by your side.

Transpersonal Therapists

How does transpersonal therapy work?

Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?

Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?

Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?

There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
