My approach is eclectic and holistic primarily using motivational interviewing, narrative, solution-focused, and cognitive-behavioral therapies.
My practice focuses on working with individuals who have substance use problems, have become dependent on alcohol or other drugs to cope with life's challenges, or have been deeply affected by substance use. (I practice under my LADC-I in Massachusetts.) As a compassionate professional with 10+ years of experience, and 31 years of personal growth in addiction and recovery, I get it! One of my favorite sayings is "curiosity replaces judgement". Let's be curious how you can move forward in recovery, and your life, without judging your past or worrying about tomorrow and just being present today.

I utilize a trauma informed lens in my practice and pull from Attachment Based modalities, Acceptance and Commitment based strategies, and Narrative Therapy to help my clients redefine their trauma.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to understand your own story. In therapy with me I prioritize our therapeutic alliance, while we work on your goals, as I understand how vulnerable and unique the therapy relationship is. I do this by using a warm and empathetic approach and honoring that trust gets built slowly over time. I also try to bring in humor when appropriate and further allow my clients to feel like an equal partner in their treatment. I know there is no one size fits all to therapy and I want to make sure you and your unique needs are at the forefront of our work together.

Now offering Teletherapy online video session for couples and marriage counseling. In a relaxed, professional but non-threatening environment, we can explore areas of your life in which you'd like to grow. As a Christian Counselor, the Bible is always the backdrop of the conversation. Nothing about human behavior shocks me. However, God is all about second chances and reconciliation and I love to be a part of the healing process. In addition to the traditional weekly counseling hour long session, I offer phone, and video sessions. I am now offering "marriage intensives" which is extensive hours of therapy over a weekend.

Relationships are a quintessential part of the human experience. While they can be a source of deep hurt and pain, they also can be a source of tremendous healing and enrichment that reinforce our sense of self and our sense of belonging. Sometimes in our relationships we feel stuck or trapped in the same recurring conflict. We lose sight of what we cherish and instead zoom in on what is missing. As disconnection grows, so do our emotional walls. We need to know in our relationships that our partners are there for us, that we can depend on and access our partners when in need. That we are valued and accepted flaws and all.

I am currently accepting clients for group therapy (openings Fall 2024) and individual therapy. The group is for adults who have (or may have) experienced trauma during childhood and are considering any of the following questions: Even though I have difficult childhood memories, was it really that bad? Was it right how my parents treated me (what they did and/or did not do)? Was it right what they led me to believe about myself, about our family, and about how to interact in relationships? Did my childhood experience leave me with emotional and relational difficulties that have significant negative consequences in my present life?

My greatest intention in working with you is to create an environment in which you feel truly seen and heard. I see this as a natural path towards assisting you in learning to witness yourself more regularly and breaking away from patterns of self-abandonment. I aim to help you decondition from disempowering beliefs that may be leading you to make behavioral choices out of fear, anxiety and shame and instead guide you towards being able to behave from a place of authenticity, self-trust, self acceptance, and genuine capacity-all of which ultimately serves to help you experience improved emotional regulation in the long term.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
