Lately it seems like feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy are all you seem to be able to feel. You're worrying about everyone judging you or not understanding what you're going through and so you isolate yourself. You no longer have a sense of direction and often feel lost or numb to life. Many times throughout the day you say to yourself “I’m not even sure who I am anymore”. There is intense fear that you’ll never be able to find yourself again or that you are not enough or lovable. Change scares you but staying the same feels wrong.

Growing up today is not easy, especially when connections and relationships are challenging. Communication can get complicated and even messy sometimes. Using compassionate curiousity, I work with others to identify strength based approaches, to support areas of challenge, sometimes using animals, plants, & eco therapy. Finding and protecting our peace is important work in our lives. I offer creative strategies to support balance, learn healthy choices and let go of what doesn't serve you. I'm grateful to share over 20 years of experience with you while holding the space for us to identify “the next right thing” for you together .

At the heart of successful therapy lies a strong therapeutic relationship. This means creating a non-judgmental space built on connection and trust, where you feel comfortable sharing your vulnerabilities and exploring your inner world. I utilize a collaborative, strengths-based, and trauma informed psychodynamic approach. I work with clients to gain awareness of how past experiences might be shaping their present, while empowering them to access strengths and support systems as they make positive changes in their life.

I primarily work with teens and young adults, ages 14-25. I have profound compassion for the challenges presented by this time of life and the concurrent challenges for families. I can see wisdom, potential and ingenuity where young adults and their families may only see obstacles, faults or blame, and my goal is to help clients find that same trust in themselves. I help my clients access and bring forth the qualities they need to achieve their goals, whether that is addressing anxiety, emerging from depression, or exploring things that seem to be blocking forward movement in school, work, relationships, and creativity.

In the beginning there was fun, excitement and sex in your relationship. Now your relationship has moved to roommate status and you don’t know how to get the spark back. You love your partner but lately things have not felt the same. TV and phones have replaced long conversations and kids take up any “adult” time the two of you can have together. Sometimes you find yourself thinking some pretty negative things about your partner and sometimes they come out of your mouth, which leads to a fight or worse, stoney silence.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
